The kingdom of Highnorn used to be a flourishing empire. Stretching from coast to coast, its citizens used to be filled with optimism. The war in the northern frontier was a distant matter for almost all citizens and with their armies under the leadership of Crownprince Noran ready to smite down their foes even that war appeared to be only a temporary setback for the kingdom.
That was until the days word about Norans death reached the capital. The king started to fall ill and passed away soon after that, most blamed the crownprinces far too early demise for their kings failing health.
With both his older brother and father dying it was time for prince Rowan to step up to the throne and with him the curtains began to fall on the kingdoms golden age. The northern war turned into a costly affair and Rowan settled it with a treaty that left a fragile peace behind.
With the war over the kingdom entered a period of internal instability. The returning soldiers had to be reintegrated into society, with king Rowan doing his best to reduce the nobilities standing armies. All for the sake of inner stability ofcourse. This was the time when the black sun began to be more noticeable. In the past these elite assassins and spies had been used very delicately, but Rowan had different ideas.
Soon nobles that openly disagreed with the king had accidents happen. Where in the past even the higher nobles of the kingdom only had suspicions that the crown had highly skilled personal doing the necessary shadow work, the fear the black sun is spreading has silenced those nobles still alive.
Nobody wants to the next one on their list.
To the north the kingdom borders Argyll. A powerful state, that, while rather small in teritory has managed to wart off the kingdoms attacks on multiple occassions. Rumours are that a powerful sorcerer rules that land.
To the east lies an islandchain densely populated by savage monsters, where only the most desperate or savage people try to make their home. These islands also serve as a place of banishment for the kingdom and it is rumoured that the black suns headquarters are situated in that hostile land, where they are trained from a young age to be barely noticeable and fight for their life.
To the west lies the endless sea and to the south of the kingdom a coalition of smaller baronies.
