Located in upper state New York, Falsburg Heights is a small weekend getaway known for its cozy B&Bs, local crafts, historic downtown, and breathtaking scenery. While a reputation for inspiring fall foliage and picturesque waterfalls, drowsy afternoon walks downtown, hayrides, and old fashioned candy stores draw plenty of tourists, there is another reasons to visit the town—it has a reputation for paranormal activity.
Stories of hauntings are common, and local shop owners often have stories about strange occurrences that happened to a family member. There are also some local tales about witch trials, back in the founding days of the town.
This weekend is a fairly busy one for the town, even for late September, when tourist season is at its height. Not only is it the 200th anniversary of the founding of the town, but a variety of other events are happening too. There’s a craft fair — teeming with pottery, wheat weaving, quilting, antique furniture and restoration, and other art; several weekend tours have come to the area, including a photographer’s tour, a heritage fruit and brewing tour, and a tour focusing on the history and occult origins of the town; and the town itself has just started decorating for the Halloween season.
When you submit a character, please let me know why you are visiting the town (or, if you want to play a local, what your role in the town is). I will work with you to establish why you are visiting/investigating/sneaking around the Ryder Estate at 4 pm on this particular Saturday (which is when and where the story will start), and will work with you to establish any additional backstory / subplot details. Please feel free to create custom nature, strength, weakness, and subplot cards, especially if the ones I’ve created don’t speak to you.
(Note that the game mechanics gives you 1x Nature card, 4x Strength cards (3x the one you pick, 1x a wild card), 4x Weakness cards (3x the one you pick, and 1x a wild card), and 5x subplot cards. When you exhaust all your strength and weakness cards, they refresh — but you can choose to evolve them based on the wild cards you used. If you want your character to have multiple strengths or a latent occult power, you can chose to introduce these over the course of the game. You can also phase out strengths or weaknesses as your character grows and learns.)
