Eternity can be dreadfully dull. You haven’t just seen it all, you’ve done it, often repeatedly, often in a dozen different variations. But how many times can you guide a soul to heaven or tempt one into hell before it gets old? Boring?
Imagine doing just that for centuries, millennia.
The angels lost interest long ago and at this point even the demons aren’t having fun. When you can make the souls of the damned scream Beethoven’s fifth symphony in perfect harmony there’s really not much left to do.
Angels, demons. If ever there were two sides to the same coin it was them. Their roles were set, their natures fixed in place. And then they found a loophole.
They could take human form, suppress their power, and as long as their power remained suppressed they could live a little. Angels could sin, demons could practice virtue. And everyone could try something new, something exciting.
It opened up a whole new world, one you just had to explore.
