Chicago. 2014. The 300th anniversary of the coronation of the latest Seelie Queen.
And her favorite human is missing – an architect she plucked from the world’s fair in 1893.
No one has escaped the Seelie Court in living fae memory. The queen continues to exert control, but the Seelie fae are in upheaval. There are rumors of anarchy, and more and more humans are turning up missing or charmed. Fae are finding more ways to participate in human society, defying their traditionalist queen.
The Queen is determined to restore order and punish whoever has wronged her. For every day the architect is missing, she adds a year to her court members’ contracts. She will not be made a fool of.
Meanwhile, an increasing (but still limited) number of humans are aware of the fae’s existence, either through first-hand experience or through the small societies popping up throughout the city. Some want to befriend the fae, but others want to eradicate the threat.
Only one thing is for certain: change has begun, and it’s hard to halt an avalanche.
