Thanks for checking out Pulp Vol.1- The Mayor’s Murder!
I wanted this to be the first in a series of stories written in the style of the old pulp books and radio dramas from the 30-60s. Hopefully we can capture the spirit of that, but we definitely don’t want to go hammy with it. In other words, no need to “Give ‘em what for, mac.” or “I don’t like the cut of your mustard, see.” If you are familiar with the genre, they were fast paced adventures, heavy hitting dramas, and some really fun mysteries. Some times you even got all that with some good writing to boot!
Think Adam Savage, Indiana Jones, Dick Tracey, The Shadow, and Sargon The Sorcerer all mashed up into one and you are on the right track for what the “Pulp” Volumes can be.
The setting for this particular volume will be in a city called Keystone. I would like this one to be a bit more of a crime/adventure/mystery/drama without the supernatural elements.
(There will be room for the horror, magic, and SciFi stuff in later volumes, but I wanted to keep it a little more strait forward this first time.)
The story will begin with the Keystone Mayor’s murder. What does that mean? I don’t know, and that is going to be the fun part! I tend to be a little ride on rails with my narration which is why I specifically want to run with this as a rotation. Let’s see where this one takes us!
Does this mean:
- Running as his replacement?
- Expanding your criminal empire in the power vacuum?
- Investigating the murder?
- Pursuing some other goal in the confusion caused by the murder?
Again, you tell me . . . maybe one of these . . . maybe all of the above . . . maybe something else entirely!
I have set up a lot of character natures which can give us a head start as well as a number of location cards for the areas of the city. I have also set up a number of strength and weakness cards and some VERY general goal cards. Freshly written cards are welcome, but I will be looking for them to fit the genre.
Hope you like the concept and I look forward to writing with you! I am looking for writers who are moderately active and are looking to complete a story. I think anywhere between 6-8 is a good number for a group.
I will be a little more selective than usual for applications as I want to ensure I populate the team with people who will be able to carry the story for all of us when their turn at the helm is up.
