…In a fictional, re-imagined version of New York City called Stern Bild City, 45 years before, superpowered individuals known as “NEXT” (an acronym standing for Noted Entities with eXtraordinary Talents) started appearing and some of them became superheroes. Each of the city’s most famous superheroes work for a sponsor company and their uniforms also contain advertising for real-life companies. Their heroic activity is broadcast on the popular television show “Hero TV”, where they accumulate points for each heroic feat accomplished (arresting criminals or saving civilians, for example) and the best ranked hero of the season is crowned “King of Heroes”.
Most famous superheroes….but not everyone is famous. Maybe you threw a desk at talent scout, maybe you didn’t get a great score with a test audience. Maybe you just up and decided that you didn’t want the money and the fame because of all the secret identity troubles. One thing is for sure, your sponsors are more Joe’s Coffee than Starbucks, but a job where you get to use your talents is a job.
The big names get to be on Hero TV, busting bank robberies and rescuing hostages, but in a city like Stern Bild, there are a hundred smaller things that need doing by someone a little lower on the ladder from repossessions to catching bail jumpers and rogue graffiti artists. That’s where you come in. And you never know what could be your big break.
Welcome to a bit of B team fun! This game is set in the Tiger and Bunny anime universe, but not with the big dogs. NEXTs are best explained as mutants, and canon powers include limited time super strength or reflexes, fire control, ice control, electricity control, flight, etc. Feel free to make up anything though keep it in the physical effects, mental is rare in the series.
I am not defining cards because this is supposed to be open, please use your Nature to explain your Talent, and add in your description someplace two things:
- the reason you aren’t famous, intentional or not
- One of your sponsors, think local businesses or niche companies
This will be a rotating narration game, so everyone can give the motley crew some task to accomplish, plus rewards for each character in terms of points and fame.
