Sometime early in the month of June 1947 a tiny town near Roswell AFB experienced an unexplained occurrence that would feed the rumor and conspiracy mills for decades to come. Lights were seen in the sky and debris was found on a ranch just outside of Lott, NM.
This storium is about that occurrence. Not just what happened on Mack Brazel’s ranch one night in July, but what needed to happen to keep humanity safe from the myriad threats that we just weren’t ready for.

This short Noire style game referred to as DAO Noire is actually the story of the creation of the Department of Abnormal Occurrances (see reference links below to get some of the history and games that make up the DAO world).
So join us. Take part in the creation of the Department of Abnormal Occurrances in this short Noire style mystery. This game is specced for six players, three from other DAO games and three from open invitations. Players will rotate in as other players retire but part of the reason for this game is to get more Storium players involved in this awesome world created and maintained entirely in Storium games.
Setting
1947 is a year of change. Harry Truman who became president at the death of FDR is facing a re-election fight and would prefer not to have anything major, like an alien attack, get in the way of his campaign.
Congress is debating a huge change to the US defense and intelligence systems, an act currently going by the name “National Security Act” is poised to restructure the department of war and the intelligence community. Pondits say it will pass one way or another within the next two weeks. Military and Government men are on edge about the changes.

- The IMF was conceived following the breakdown of world trade and currencies during the Great Depression to oversee the international monetary system of exchange rates and international payments.
- The cold war begins in earnest with The Voice Of America broadcast across the iron curtain.
- Jackie Robinson becomes the first colored player to join the Major Leagues
- The House Un-American Activities Committee is formed to investigate Hollywood’s communist ties.
