A meteor fell spectacularly through the November sky, bursting with a shockwave that woke most of the town to shattering windows and a sound they could only compare to thunder or dynamite.
Sightings of things described as “little,” “green,” and “men” by their alleged witnesses spread like wildfire when they met the dry tinder of public imagination, and soon enough the town buzzed with Roswellian speculation.
Then there were a few people, as many as you’d run across in any other town, who knew how much strangeness the world had to offer if you looked in the right places or grew up with it in your blood. Where those who could only speculate saw an alien invasion, they saw the symptoms of something more familiar.
