It’s the year 181018 and you’re on your way to the annual interplanetary fair on the planet of Orleans. (Think the Venice Carnival or Mardi Gras). The whole economy of Orleans basically revolves around this festival, with things like farm crops, means of transportation, and imports oriented towards supporting the fair’s logistics.
The traditional payment to get into the Orleans Fair is to pay three favors of kindness to the planet’s native citizens; until this time, the gates will be magically invisible to you. You have to wander until you get into the fair.
But be careful - a few of the natives are tricksters, who love to taunt the tourists paying favors, and when you get tricked into doing a “favor” for a trickster, you have to start your favor count all over again.
Rumor has it that the President of the Universe is going to be at the Fair! People say that he’s here because he’s considering ending the governmental subsidy to the fair, in favor of funding the Universal civil war.
This fierce civil war arose over the collapse of some of the Universe’s largest banks, and teh resulting conflict about models of government. The President is interested in maintaining “democracy” and the planets that disagree advocate for the demise of the current economic system.
At this time, the President’s side is losing. Since the Fair is the most hedonistic soiree in the Universe, and the President is a control-hungry puritan, it stands to reason that the fair is in danger of being cut out of the budget.
Of course, the people of Orleans are in a panic about this, because without the Fair, they are in danger of falling into poverty. While official world policy is supportive of the President’s faction and the democracy, this might change if the funding is dropped.
Can you make it to the fair - and can you save Orleans?

The Alanteans are the ones who originally started The Fair on Orleans as a form of worship. This was centuries ago, and the Alantean race is lost, the last members having scattered a hundred years ago. Myth says that the Alanteans were deeply magical, magical in a way that magic is no longer known. The more superstitious folk believe that if The Fair ever is ended, the gods of the Alanteans will rise in displeasure and crush the whole planet of Orleans, if not the Universe.
As a site of hedonistic pleasure, The Fair is highly appealing to the adrenaline-driven members of The Adventure Club. This club hosts their annual meetings on Orleans during the fair, and they regularly perform expeditions across the planet’s unexplored areas. This year, the club’s agenda entails meeting up at The Fair to competitively seek “The Lost Island,” specifically a Plateau on said island where there is purportedly buried Alantean treasure. As usual, hundreds of fans are placing bets on the competitors, though two stand out as actual potential winners: Lord Masters, a standoffish prick who has won the championship in an uncontested streak several years in a row, and Philadelphia Mars, an up-and-coming adventurer who came close to winning the race to The Forgotten Peak last year.
