As the children all sat together on the seating areas in the living room, Miss Margot paced back and forth, staring at them. “I am so disappointed in all of you, besides little Gregor, he did nothing. Everyone involved in todays accident will be cleaning up after dinner. The kids let out moans of annoyance as miss Margot spoke of their punishment. “AND. Eugene, Coraline, and Luna, you guys will also be caring for our new babies on the 4th floor tomorrow. And for you Claude,” She said turning her direction to the little boy sitting on the floor. “You used your abilities in public! What if someone saw? Which is exactly why you’re helping the older three with the babies, except you’ll be the one to throw out the used diapers. Everyone understood? Good.” She said nodding her head along with the children.
“I am going to prepare the feast you all will sit in here and learn to get along until I finish.” She said crossing her arms. She looked at Rusty who had just came in, awkwardly standing in the doorway. “And you..uh…Interact with your fellow brothers and sisters.” She said shoving them in. “And if I hear anything, I’m making you ALL sleep outside.” She slammed and locked the doors shut before proceeding to the kitchen.
Gregor quizzically took in the room. Shame, indifference, and curiosity were present. And a new face. In the end, the incident won out. “What happened? How come everyone’s in so much trouble?”
“Used my abilities indeed!” moaned Claude.
“Being as how my ability is to not be noticed - and I was trying to help, after all. I’m not the one who was creating chaos!”
Poppy stuck out her bottom lip in a pout. “But I didn’t do anything? It was Eugene…this is not fair!”
She crossed her arms and sniffled as she tried her best not to cry in front of the others. She glared up at Eugene. She would get him back later.
Eugene slouched on the couch and glared at Poppy as she glared at him. “Don’t blame me. We wouldn’t be in this situation if you would have just picked the damn flowers so we could go home! You’re such a dingus.” He said throwing a pillow at Poppy. “And if anything we should be focusing on Claude, he’s the one who used his abilities in public. What if he got caught hmm? He should be the one in trouble.”
Then he looked at Gregor. “Nothing happened, just these three idiots being idiots like usual.” He said, also directing his attention to Luna. “And you miss, I didn’t need help from you I had the situation under control. Bloody hell.”
Coraline gave the rude boy, Eugene, a glare.
He’s getting on my nerves. She thought, rolling her eyes. And I’m a very patient girl. Good Lord. Urgh.
“Are you serious? It’s honestly no one’s fault. Why don’t you just shut up? Bloody hell yourself.” She crossed her arms over her chest and looked around the room.
If anything, your the idiot.
Meanwhile….The sound of Miss Margots voice and a couple of the much older kids in the house could be heard, along with a new voice and constant rustling.
The door creaked open revealing the group of kids who were on ‘punishment’. Miss Margot walked in, eyeing each one carefully. “Children you have a new sister, this is Rose.”
The beautiful brown haired girl entered the room, a bit timid at first. “She’s the oldest one in the room, meaning she’s in charge of keeping an eye on you trouble makers while I prepare to set her room up with Luna and Eugene.”
Eugenes eyes darted to Mrs. Margot and the girl. “Oh, good god, I have to share a room with another woman? Jesus Christ.”
“Eugene, shush.” Miss Margot said.
“Now Rose, I’d like you to get to know each of these children, because I take care of so many I separate them into units each unit living on a different floor of the building, but we all act as one big happy family, got it? Now, I expect all of you to help Rose understand everything. I will come back when dinner is ready, and I will talk with Rose in private after.”
Miss Margot hugged rose, giving rose a sweet, big smile before heading out.
Cora turned her attention to the girl.
“Hi, there. I’m Coraline, call me Cora, or whatever you want.” She hugged the girl and smiled brightly. “It’s super nice to meet you, Rose!”
Rose smiled at Miss Margot as she left. Just before she could take a step forward one of the girls came up and gave her a hug. Rose smiled.
“Hi, there. I’m Coraline, call me Cora, or whatever you want. It’s super nice to meet you Rose!” Cora said.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you too, Cora.” Rose said. Her eyes sparkled, and she glanced across the room at the other children.
“It’s nice to meet you all.” She said. She looked behind her at the closed door, then back at the children. She went and sat down, Cora still beside her.
“What are your names?” She asked gently, her brown eyes sparkling.
“Pleased to meet you!” Gregor stepped forward and offered a handshake. “The name’s Gregor”
Rose appeared to be several years older than him and looked ordinary. Except her eyes, which had an uncanny yet familiar gaze which Gregor struggled to meet.
I wonder what her powers are.
Eugene glared at Cora, she was such a suck-up.
Then he watched Gregor introduce himself. To be fair, Gregor didn’t seem too bad. Maybe Eugene would be able to deal with him more than anyone else in this trashy group.
He however, moved his vision to Rose. He had to admit, she was beautiful, but he could already tell just by how she reacted to Cora…She was going to be irritating.
“What are your names?” She said. She was too calm about this whole situation. She had to be a witch.
“The names Eugene, and I’ll be fifteen years old in two weeks.” He ended just like that. “There is nothing else you need to know about me other than the fact that i enjoy the pain and suffering of others, including brutal deaths of organisms.”
He blinked at Rose, keeping a stern face. “You don’t ever need to use my name however, since you wont be talking to me, I don’t give rejects my time of day. However, fair warning, that one.” He said pointing to Poppy.
“That one is the last pickle in the barrel. The gum underneath your shoe. And Satans spawn herself. So, watch out.”
He smirked at Poppy, a job well done, as he went to sit in the chair in the corner, furthest away from the group.
“Oh, please, Rose, don’t listen to him, he’s an absolute idiot. I cannot stand him.” She rolled her eyes and her facial expression tensed, and looked apologetically at Poppy. “Don’t listen to him, either, darling.”
Coraline spun around and glared heavily at Eugene, shaking her head slightly.
He is literally a bit-
She sighed, turning back to the new girl. “If you ever need anything, then just call, okay?”
I haven’t gotten a vision in a while. . .wonder when I’ll get my next one. She mentally shrugged the thought off and resumed her frowning and sitting position on the carpet by the coffee table.
Poppy stood from her seat and walked over to Eugene. She stared at him, giving him evil looks. If he was going to call her Satan’s spawn, he would learn what that really meant.
All of a sudden, tree roots spouted from the ground and started to twist around him, holding him in place to the chair.
She smirked and sat back in her seat, leaving him tied up in roots, strong roots. “It’s nice to meet you Rose, I’m Poppy.” She gave her sweetest smile.
Rose’s head spun slightly at all the introductions. Gregory, Cora, Poppy, and Eugene…I’m sure I can keep them all straight. She thought. Suddenly Plants started wrapping around Eugene in his chair. She stood. Ignoring his arguments that she didn’t need to talk to him, she walked over.
“Poppy, I know he bothers you, but you shouldn’t let his arguments get to you.” She said gently. “Sometimes it is better to fight fire with water.” Rose stood by the window allowing the light to grace her finger. The light shot into a beam and Rose used it to cut through the plants. They fell helplessly to the floor. Rose moved away from the window and looked over at Poppy. She looked mortified, although by what Rose wasn’t sure.
Poppy watched as the beam of light shot from Rose’s finger through her beloved plants. Her jaw dropped and tears filled her eyes. She had just killed them…
Poppy ran over to the vines and plants and picked the dead pieces up in her hands. She clenched her fists angrily and ran off. She didn’t want them to see her cry and she didn’t want to be humiliated again by Eugene.
She found a spot in the corner of the garden and cried her tears into the soil.
Claude approached Rose.
“Hi, Rose, it’s nice to meet you,” he said, looking up at her.
“I’m Claude”.
Rose could see Claude was about the same age as Poppy.
“Um, you’ve got a great power. But Poppy loves her plants. I think she loves them like you would a pet. Can we go and find her, make sure she is okay? Eugene has been mean to her, and now her plants have been killed - it will really hurt her.”
Rose watched with confusion as Poppy ran out of the room. What did I do? She thought. Suddenly about, about the same age as Pappy walked up to her.
“I’m Claude .” The boy said. He then went on to explain that Poppy loved her plants, and that by killing them Rose had only made the situation worse.
“I had no idea!” Rose said thoughtfully. “Yes, we should go find her. If I had known I would have…well, I don’t know. But I really didn’t mean to hurt her.” Rose walked over to the door making sure Claude was with her.
“Your going to have to show me where to go.” Rose said. Claude lead the way to where Poppy was in the garden. Rose walked over.
“I’m sorry Poppy, I didn’t realize how much you loved your plants.” Rose said sitting beside her. “Is there anyway I could make it up to you?”
Poppy had pulled her knees into her chest and rested her arms atop them with her head buried. When Rose spoke she looked up at her through teary eyes and sniffled. Her cries still came out in small sobs and her bottom lip stuck out sadly. It was a big change from the little vixen she had been around Eugene.
Sniff, sniff She shook her head. “No, it’s okay, there’s nothing you could do. I will forgive you.” Although easily pained she easily forgave as well.
