Hundreds of years ago, the mages of the Iris Isles practiced magic in imposing towers or spooky old mansions, while commoners tossed and kicked a ball around the village square and had a great time, even if (or especially if) the whole thing turned into a giant brawl. At some point, the mages figured out that the common folk were having much more fun, and the sport of mageball was born.
The game spread throughout all the city-states of the Isles, and advanced as the state of magic did. New spells led to new techniques on the field, crystalvision meant that people far and wide could view games, and greater political unity in the Isles meant an Isles-wide league could grow and thrive. Nowadays, war and strife in the Isles is largely a thing of the past, but the city-states still maintain their fierce rivalries on the mageball field.
The objective of mageball is quite simple: run or pass the ball down the field and shoot it through the goal. Simple as that, right? Of course, when magic is involved, it is never quite that simple.
Players soar through the air and slam each other into the dirt, while spectacular telekinesis-assisted throws and catches thrill the crowd. Elemental fire clashes with ice, entangling vines rise up from the ground, and, when the dust clears, only one team will emerge the victor.
You will play as members of a new expansion team from the city-state of Cydonia as it begins to compete in the IML (Isles Mageball League) in hopes of winning the prestigious Astra Cup.
