The cast is currently full. We had some wonderful applications. I am keeping this game open in the event that players are unable to continue with the story. Thank you to all who applied.
THIS GAME IS FOR COMMITTED PLAYERS ONLY. Don’t join if you aren’t going to keep with it. It is just rude.
This story will be done with a Past Tense, Third Person Limited Narrative.
If something comes up in RL and you will be busy for a time, please inform us so we can move the story without you. Missing players will be retired to allow for new characters.
This is a plot driven fantasy story with the occasional brawl to keep players on their toes. People will die. Probably not any player (unless you do something really stupid).
—-Premise—-
It has been over 1,000 years since the Ancients vanished in the great Cataclysm. Those who live now have little knowledge of the time before. The only clues about them are the ancient ruins and relics of terrifying power that the ancient people left behind.
In the years after the Cataclysm the few who were left behind worked together to rebuild what little they could of society. With the loss of the ancient powers, people were forced to turn to the newly awakened magic to survive in an increasingly hostile world. For nearly three hundred years the survivors lived in a golden age of magic.
In the aftermath of the Cataclysm rumors began to spread of a black mist that would spill out from holes in the air. None who entered the mist ever returned, and areas where the mist had been became infested with horrifying creatures. As the horrors grew in numbers, travel between provinces became increasingly dangerous. The golden age of humanity had come to an end.
Since the end of the golden age, mankind has ever been at war. The creatures of the mist, an ever present threat, forced many provinces to enter the ruins of the Ancients in search of new weapons to defend themselves. However, many believed that tampering with the ancient machines would awaken the Cataclysm from its slumber. The two sides fought over the use of the ancient machines for years. When the two could not reconcile their beliefs they split into two kingdoms. Cronus who sought to defend their lands with the power of the ancients, and Hyperion who feared the return of the Cataclysm.
The “Titan Wars” continued for nearly six hundred years. With the advent of the airship it became clear to Hyperion that they could not win without the use of ancient relics. Soon they were forced to enter the ruins in search for ways to turn the tides of the war.
They found it with the discovery of the Svalinn, an ancient device which could protect an airship from all harm. Armed with the Svalinn the Hyperion fleet began its inexorable push towards victory.
With the true purpose of the war long forgotten Hyperion sought to once again unify the human race under one banner. In the closing days of the war Cronus, desperate to maintain their freedom, launched a final attack on Hyperion’s capital city, Fulton.
Fulton burned for two days as the Cronus infiltration forces attempted to take the Citadel and the Council of Thirteen. However, their forces got divided and were eventually defeated. Hyperion, enraged by the attack on their capital, burned every city in their path. The war ended with Cronus’s bitter surrender.
Five years have passed since the end of the “Titan Wars.” Life in the newly formed Titan Collective is mostly peaceful. Though tension between the two factions is still high, there have been no open hostilities.
Rumors have spread of a new ruin discovered in the northern mining town of Uriden. Many have made the journey in hopes of finding an ancient device which will make them wealthy beyond their dreams. Warriors, unable to find a place in a world at peace, have made their way to Uriden to protect those in search of new treasures.
—-General Notes—-
Nearly everyone is capable of learning to use magic. There are two methods of casting. The first and most common is component casting. This requires the caster to have an intimate understanding of “what” the spell does, and a physical focus. Usually a book with a short incantation to aid in focusing the mind. As such with the proper spell book, most people can safely use magic to accomplish a wide variety of tasks.
Wild casting allows the caster to create unique and varied magical spells on the spot without use of a physical focus. Incantations aren’t required, but they still help control the process. While it is believed that most living in the golden age where capable of wild casting at will, few living have successfully done so.
In game terms this means, as a player you can obtain spell books cards that allow you to use the magic within and you decide the effects. If you choose to attempt to wild cast, the narrator (me) determines what the spell does (usually something horrible). This is to prevent players from using magic as a cheap plot device.
Players are encouraged to create subplots to better customize their characters. I created a few mostly to serve as examples.
