In ancient times the old Volarian Empire subjugated the realm and supposedly the rest of the world. Then one day the Volarians vanished leaving behind their mysterious technology. The Kingdoms that rose in their absence paled in comparison. The few intact Volarian devices became divine artifacts only capable of being operated by Nobility.
In the Aurlaun peninsula four centuries ago the kingdoms came together to form the Aurlaun Realm under the first High King, savior of the Realm. Using divine artifacts and sorcery Hiven Oyra united the realm to drive out the invading Nomadic Tribes and construct the Wall, a massive superstructure to keep the tribes out. With the threat ended the High King went about to form an elite institution, the Knight Guard to protect the realm and keep the peace.
For centuries the realm knew peace, the Knight Guard serving to defeat raiders between kingdoms and drive out monsters, always ready to fight the nomads should they ever get the wall. The only Nomad to ever to get over the wall was a technocratic chieftain Alitta Decima and her warband almost a hundred and twenty years ago. They had reactivated a sacred ancestral airship and were intent on ravaging the Realm. The Knight Guard put up a defensive, but were no match for the airship’s weaponry, alongside ravagers made of metal called Warforged. Many divine Volarian Relics were stolen.
Only when the airship neared the Tower of the High King did battle change. The gods’ wrath rose from the ground striking and downing the ancestral airship causing it to crash. A number of nomads were captured but Decima escaped somehow. Before their execution a few of the nomads confessed they were after the legendary divine weapon Kagkiri and the divine artifacts would lead the way. After that many a treasure hunter launched expeditions over the Wall and into the unknown to find the legendary weapons and retrieve any other divine artifacts. None ever returned. After a number of years the High King outlawed crossing the Wall for the safety of his citizens. The story was suppressed as the ramblings of doomed barbarians. Generations passed in a golden age studying the wreck of the ancestral warship. The Knight Guard expanded and a prominent figure Korvin Vashar rose to power in the Knight Guard.
Now High King Jedric is dead, but no one knows. Betrayed by his closest ally, the White Knight, leader of the Knight Guard Korvin. Using a loyal Necromancer the White Knight controls the High King and is calling for Holy War, to reclaim the lost artifacts and expand the Realm. Now a voice calls to you in your dreams, gather at the central lake in the Mipedim Forest just beyond the Wall.
