The year is 2010.
A terrorist attack has struck Kaidan, Japan, leaving devastation in its wake. But despite the overall chaos caused, just a few days after the incident, all signals of it go silent. There’s no mention of it on the news, people have stopped talking about it, and everyone seems to be going about their business as usual, as if all were normal, despite subways being closed off and transportation delays.
But there’s a disquiet lurking beneath the utter normalcy that is difficult for some to ignore. Those most affected by the cataclysm seemed to have vanished or been taken by the government to be dealt with. Whether you’re a businessman, a student, member of the Orochi group- it doesn’t matter. None are safe.
Also, even stranger, there are two teams started by groups known as the Orochi and the Phoenicians, although they don’t seem to be working together. It’s almost as if it’s a chess game, but one that’s being conducted amongst the shadows and with those around them as pawns.
More so, radio stations that people have called conspiratorial nonsense have been gagged. But the president keeps on saying there is no reason for alarm, no need to panic. To further add to these problems, there is music coming from the sea, and fisherman talk of scaly, lizard-like creatures snatching people away. But any attempt to try and capture them? They just vanish into the mist.
Oh, yeah, the mist. Kaidan has been surrounded by the mist. There’s a myth that the Solomon Islands, New England has been surrounded by the same mist, but people believe it to be nonsense. But as tourism plummets in the Solomon Islands, it does so in Kaidan as well. The elder generation have spoken of communicating with the gods and the oni, and the younger generation just sigh and roll their eyes.
So in the end you are stuck with just questions: who can you trust? Who is actually telling the truth? Is there some secret going on? Is there something you’re not in the know of? They keep claiming everything’s fine, not to be alarmed. But the internet is being censored. No information is to leave the area.
And there are rumors.
Rumors that they are planning to build a wall.
Whoever you are, whatever you do, you’ve decided you need to know. When you venture out and learn the truth, though, only then may you see it’s too late.
==================================
This is a player-driven game with minimal storyteller involvement that takes place in a world loosely inspired by The Secret World MMO, a game with heavy Lovecraftian horror themes. No knowledge of the game is required to play. Though there are established strength and weakness cards, please consider building your own. Subplots are entirely up to the player.
Looking for 6-8 players ideally, but I’ll consider more based on how many I get of each nature.
Because of some of the themes this game will deal with, it will be considered NSFW.
