As the train slows to a stop, the recorded voice intones: “This is York Road.”
There’s nothing unusual about the message. The doors to the Underground train snap open on cue. But you don’t get up. You don’t even look up, lost in a haze of misery or exhaustion or drunkenness or just new podcast enthusiasm.
This isn’t your stop. It isn’t anyone’s stop. York Road closed in 1932.
And yet, on a cold rainy night in November 2017, the last Eastbound Piccadilly line train stops there—and then doesn’t move on again.
You’re stuck in a station that closed 85 years ago.
At some point in the last few minutes, you crossed the line between reality and fantasy, dreaming and waking, your normal everyday life and… something else.
