Kildred watched his royal father throw the Kingdom of Markum into despair time after time. His father trusted no one, and accordingly, would allow no counsel to reach his ear. Believing that his rule was mandated by God, he never once consulted others in order to make his decrees. However, without experience in financial, martial, or scholarly matters the King quickly became overwhelmed and forced his people into strict service in order to maintain their loyalty.
This oppressive reign did not last long, the King let his anxiety drive him mad and shortly after cast himself off of the castle walls. This left young Kildred the task of taking up the work of his father and managing a kingdom at the age of twenty.
He had learned from his father's mistakes, he would rule his land with mercy and thoughtfulness, always relying on the expertise of his servants. As the years went by, young Kildred flourished as did his methods of rule, he became known to his people as Kildred the Pensive.
While the kingdom rested in ease at their gentle and effective ruling, unknown forces would be watching and waiting for the right moment to seize power.
