Every baby is born with a finite amount of magic in Steria. Some are born with more than others, but it’s difficult to teach children not to use magic when they have it. Most burn through it by the time they reach puberty. Some manage to hold onto it into adulthood. A very disciplined few are trained never to use it except in service of the kingdom.
Lately, however, children are being born with less and less magic. Steria is dying, and no one knows how to save it. Its people have only one hope remaining.
