In 1516, Thomas More created an ideal world, A Utopia. The perfect world according to one man. His expression became a discussion which became a theory. The theory then became a cult. A Cult of those who believed that the perfect world was possible.
The year is 2916 in the Original.
Dystopia the Second will take place 10 years previous.
River Carter, the founder of Dystopia, the new earth as we know it. One man has made the rules and they are carried out by A.I.T (Artificially Intelligent Technology).
No money exists, no private property, nothing is owned. Each household is given what they need. That being said, there are special perks given to government loyalists.
Cars are not provided as they shouldn’t be needed, although families are allowed to purchase if they wish.
Each family has a speciality based on the three career choices available for men only. These are Governmental, Agricultural and Medical. All other jobs are carried out by AIT.
One yearly health check is given to all citizens, if it is deemed that an individual will contaminate or even, not last long, they are taken to die.
There is no divorce, no aggression, no affairs. Violators will be killed.
Anyone who violates any of these structures will be killed and their families executed.
Men will work during the day in the week and on the weekends will spend time with their families. Women will cook, clean and take care of the children. It is the purpose of men and women as husband and wives to breed up to 4 children and no more. After the 4th child has been born, the women will undergo a full hysterectomy.
Suicide is illegal, those who partake will bring shame upon their family and forever have that labelled on their records.
Men, women and children are all to wear a face covering if they are required to leave the home, this is mandatory. Every citizen must remain perfect and in unison.
Once a child has turned 18, they will be required to leave the home and be mated to someone of the official’s choice.
If they lose their spouse and are still able to provide children, the children will be taken to The Unit and the spouse will be remarried.
The Unit is a specially designed place made for children whose natural abilities are still to be explored. The government is still working towards Dystopia becoming perfect and so looking to instill anything that is good for those who are citizens. Any children from The Unit who come of age and are not of use any longer to The Unit will be placed into homes and jobs of the Government’s choice. If they disturb the lifestyle of Dystopia, they will be destroyed.
All imperfections are destroyed.
Although it is the government appointed officials who discuss and make the rules, it is the A.I.T. who enforce them. Once instructed to do the job, it is done, no turning back.
The World of Dystopia
Set almost 900 years into our future, the Earth is a much different place. The tectonic plates have shifted and the ice caps have melted. All that exists is one stretch of land. Dystopia is a collection of 3 cities. Alpha, Beta, Delta. Each city is joined by a single road. The rest is pure wasteland, ruined by war, surrounded by the ocean expanding across most of the Earth. Due to the government’s decisions, it has been ruled that no one is to explore the expanse of the ocean as everything they need is in Dystopia.
The wastelands contain shells of buildings once used and ruined by war and bombs.
The cities are green and perfect.
Looking at Dystopia on a map, each city Alpha, Beta and Delta is a perfect hexagonal shape. A town square centralised, surrounded by housing, which is then surrounded by 50 acres of greenery, grass, trees, almost synthetic, and 50 acres of farming land bordering each town, dotted with the occasional farming machinery.
The rest of the land is pure wasteland scattered with derelict, broken buildings, smog, and empty, cracked roads. It’s hard to drive a mile without encountering at least four potholes.
Dried up riverbeds, no sight of any colour but brown and occasionally black where the area had been severely burnt. Nothing on the land has grown for over 700 years. Trees are purely carcasses. Nature is non existent.
Each home in the three cities is exactly the same, catered to each family as they grow. All needs are taken care of. Each person dresses respectfully. Each household wants nothing.
The government building and the hospital are both situated in the centre of the town along with the central shops and community spaces, i.e., theatre, community hall, worship space, school, and fire station. The central technology centre is based on the outskirts of Beta, controlling each A.I.T.
Dystopia is the ideal place to be. It is truly perfect.
