Parkside Lakes is much like any other moderately sized midwestern suburb of a large midwestern city. Oh, granted, it does seem to have an extra share of weirdness - people disappearing and/or briefly being seen after they’re supposed to be dead., strange animal attacks, weird weather phenomena, spooky local legends and the like - but otherwise it appears perfectly normal.
Appearances are, of course, deceiving. And the students of William J. Hunter High School are the ones most likely to find that out the hard way.
The end of the school year is in sight, and most sports are winding down. But not the Track teams. They may not quite have the prestige of some of Hunter High’s other teams, but they’re coming on strong, and if they do well enough this year, next year they might even be competative at state level.
Except that more and more members of the team have been slacking off lately. And those that are coming to practice look like they’ve been partying all night. At least three people have been kicked off for failing grades too.
Something is going wrong for the Track team, and at Hunter High, it’s probably more than just a problem with morale.
