On the surface, Hasting City is like any other North American metropolis, but the surface hides it’s true nature like a mask. Beneath the monotony of normality lies a bitter darkness, a darkness plagued by vampires and lycans, by ancient beings and mystical creatures. All different in so many ways, but all the same in one… They are soulless… They are Hollow…
Hollows are all that have no soul, for whatever reason. What once made them human is long gone, and all that is left is an insatiable desire to feed the hollow void within. All hollows survive off the souls of mortals. Blood is life to mortals and to Hollows alike, but in vastly different ways. Without blood, humans wither physically, but for Hollows blood feed them at a more primal level. It feeds their urges, it keeps them sane, and it keeps them in control of themselves. From vampires to lycans they all survive off the same food, and they all contain the same unquenchable thirst.
Setting: In this world that revolves around Hasting City, a hidden conflict lies dangerously on the cusp of mortal understanding. All Hollows have lived, more or less, in secret for as long as time has flowed, and not until recently has that secret been truly threatened.
Factions:
The Hollow Court: Unifying the Blood Court and all lesser courts under one banner. The Hollow Courts power is immeasurable and has fingers in both the Hollow world and Mortal world alike. The Hollow Court is a very diverse group of beings, and include many sects within itself, including; The Alpha Pack of Lycans, The Twilight Court of the Sidhe, along with other lesser branches of the Dawn Sidhe courts, and the Risen, which includes most Spectres, Wraiths, and Spirits. The Hollow court is very accepting of all Hollows with an exception of the Shriven, for they are seen as an abomination to the Hollowed way due to their close link to the Mortal World, and their lack of physical power.
The Blood Court: The United Hive of Vampires. All vampires are openly accepted into their power-hungry arms, but blind obedience is the only way to survive within the Blood Court walls. Any and all free-spirited Vampires will quickly realize what it is like to be excommunicated from the Hive. The Blood Court are especially accepting of other vampires, and slightly accepting of other members of the Hollow Court, including the Alpha Pack, some branches of the Sidhe court, and other less significant sects. However, the exception to the Blood Courts tolerance are the Apostates. Rogue, and banished Vampires that live outside the scarlet shroud of the Blood Court.
The Dawn Sidhe: Ruled by powerful Fae and lead by the Dawn Matriarch, the Dawn Sidhe are cruel, smart, and manipulative. Do not let their beauty deceive you, they will get what they want from you, whether by force or by more unpleasant methods. The Dawn Sidhe are allied with no one. They are powerful, though their numbers are small.
The Twilight Sidhe: Ruled by powerful Fae and lead by the Twilight Seer, the Twilight Sidhe are everything the Dawn Sidhe are not. Twilight is forgiving where Dawn is ruthless, kind where Dawn is cruel. However, seeking out a member of the Twilight Sidhe is near impossible due to their timid disposition. They also keep their allies at a safe distance and their enemies farther.
The Alpha Pack: The Lycan equivalent of the Blood Court, but with less strict organization and no less strict punishment. All rulings and decisions made within the Pack are chosen by the strong. Strength is everything, and the strong devour the weak within the Pack. This leads them to make very short alliances within the Hollow Court, due to each new Alpha possibly having different views than their predecessor.
The Reapers: Characterized by their flowing dark robes and their unnaturally pale skin tone, the Reapers are an ancient organization with the sole purpose to hunt down those without souls. Though the Reapers themselves are exclusively soulless, due to a very specific initiation requirement that strips away the mortal soul and infuses it into the newly formed Reapers blade. Reaper blades are one of the few items in the new world that can slay a Hollow without prejudice. Reapers do not make friends. They are capable of taking on a mortal form at will, and are consequently able to blend in seamlessly with the Mortal World making them very effective assassins. They have no need of allies. Reapers live or die together as harbingers of the Hollow.
The Shriven: Shriven are not a unified faction. Few rarely ever form a cohesive group of fellow Shriven. It is simply their nature. They are brought into the Hollow World alone, and are doomed to face that fate eternally. Also, they are among the less blatantly powerful of the Hollow. Instead, their strength lies in more subtle means. They are ageless, and contain the ability to keep a flawless human visage at all times, and that is something that most Hollow are incapable of doing. This makes them able to perfectly blend in with the Mortal World.
The Risen: All Ghosts fall under one archetype; The Risen. All Risen that retain enough of their mental stability will one way or another gravitate towards the Risen faction. It is a calling that burns in their newly Hollowed form, and will not cease until their afterlife has been acknowledged by the Chronicler. A singular being within the Hollow world that records all of the Risen when they first Hollow. Some lost souls, and some brave souls evade the Chronicler for as long as they can, for fear that being recorded will somehow make their current state “irreversible”. The Risen as a faction are honorary members of the Hollow Court, but they rarely associate themselves with the court itself due to them being a more “liberal” faction.
