Today, August 2nd of the year 1780, is the day it begins, your last year as a student of Greywood Academy, though you are only a student there on paper anymore. As a senior of the most prestigious military academy in all of Largren, this year would be entirely in the field, serving your nation throughout the world. And what better way to serve than as a member of the Goliath Corps.
Largren has been in a proxy war with the Holy Minamys Empire for over a century at this point. The two nations haven’t had a direct confrontation for that duration, but both have had satellite nations under their control which have been battling without end throughout the last hundred years.
It was 40 years ago that the Minamys army unleashed their greatest weapon to date: the steam powered Goliaths. These bipedal monstrosities were far larger and less graceful back then than they are now, stout and slow, but packing a power neither side had possessed during their history of war. These machines turned the stalemate of a war quickly in the favor of Minamys. It was only through a great deal of skill that General Leonhardt, the hero of Largren, managed to defeat a squad of them in 1751, leading to Largren’s greatest scientists and engineers finally being capable of reverse-engineering and improving upon the Minamys design. Since that day, the two sides have continued their endless proxy war, and while Largren’s capture of the technology had done them a great service, it wasn’t until five years ago that they had finally achieved a true advantage. Through the technological marvel of wireless voice transmission, the Largren forces have been capable of improving their battlefield logistics to a level never before seen through Goliath combat, leading to what can only be called a stalemate between the forces.
Throughout Largren’s history, all full citizens have been required to perform military duty upon becoming adults, and those from the protected nations of Largren are welcome to join the Largren military as well. In fact, it is the only way one can become a citizen. This compulsory enlistment is how the nation of Largren has been capable of attaining what they have in their constant skirmishes against the significantly larger Minamys empire.
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
The characters are 17-18 year old members of Largren’s military academy, finally being assigned to their first year as active Goliath Corp soldiers. They can be nobility from Largren, commoners from Largren, or those seeking citizenship from one of the satellite nations, but for whatever reason they have just finished their years of academy in the Greywood Military Academy and are now students joining the forces abroad.
Each Goliath, which are large steam-powered bipedal mechs, has two people inside of it during operation. One is the pilot, located in the chest region. The other is the Goliath’s engineer, in charge of maintaining power levels, on-the-fly repairs, and the wireless communications.
Goliath squads generally consist of a pair of Goliaths as well as a single logistics officer that works from a small airship above the battlefield to keep the two working in synch and provides an eagle-eye view of the battle.
