In an ancient Greek/Roman land of Istoría, There is The Games of the Gods, a gladiatorial-like event where a random array of citizens from ages 16 up compete in a fight to the death where a pair of people win. You are the unlucky victim of the games, but you have some things to your advantage.
THIS IS A HUNGER GAMES LIKE GAME WHERE THE CHARACTERS DO DIE
Ancient Gods and Powers
Millions of years ago, there were the ancient gods. They had power beyond what anyone would’ve thought. But they abused their powers, and fires raged the land, seas flooded, making it nearly impossible for mortal life. But eventually, every single one of the gods feel in love in a mortal, and had children, or demigods. Unlike their parents, these demigods wanted peace on the land, and they tried to convince their parents as well. But they would not listen. So, they decided the only way to bring peace was to kill their parents. They hated to do so, but they knew that was the only way. For one month straight, you could hear their battle cries from atop what would be soon known as The Demigods Hill, as on the final day of the month August, the Ancients were brought down.
~~
This began a new era, for the mortals and the gods. Soon, the extreme weather was brought to an end, crops flourished, and the mortals had nothing to fear. However, when the Ancients were killed, their powers broke into shards and flew across the lands, letting each mortal absorb a bit of their powers.
~~
Each mortal has a shard of one god’s powers running through their veins. Some have more magic than others, but its still there.
Games of the Gods
The Games of the Gods began their first event the year after the Ancients died. Its to honor the Gods, by providing entertainment and sacrifices at once.
~~
The Games of the Gods is an annual event where an unknown number of participants fight to the death. The number is predicted by the prophet a few days before the games, when the prophet is told how many people shall fight. Then those participants are sought out, and the night where all the champions are found, they have the Feast of the Gods, where all the champions feast as they are told about the Games by the King. Then, the next day, all the champions are released onto the battle-grounds. The first day there’s no challenges, people just wander, and alliances may form. The games really begin the next day.
~~
On the first day, the first challenge is begun. It can be anything, from wild beasts to flooding the arena. When the sun sets, the challenge is removed. The next day is no challenge, but in the morning, the champions receive a gift. It can be food, water, medical supplies, weapons, or really anything. They have that day to recover and teams may form or break. The next day is the second challenge, with the same rules and the same break-day. The third challenge is the last one, which is often a fight to the death. Then, the winners are announced and then the games end. The winners are showered with gifts and money, and then they each move into a huge mansion provided by the government.
Powers
The powers your characters can have must associate with the gods of ancient greek. If you’ve read Percy Jackson, you know what I’m talking about. They could be either major or minor gods. When you submit your character, tell me which god you based it off of in the notes. I’ll give you a list for ideas.
Zeus: Power to summon lightning.
Poseidon: Power to control water and breathe underwater
Hades: Be able to summon the dead
Demeter: Make plants grow( it seems stupid, but encasing your enemy in a tree?)
Athena: Being wise and intelligent
Aphrodite: You could easily persuade people
Hermes: Sneaky and a good thief
Ares: A wonderful fighter
Hera: Being able to form tight bonds that won’t result in backstab
Artemis: Great arrow shooting.
Hephaestus: Ability to summon fire and to make things.
Apollo: Being a healer/shooting well.
Dionysus: Being able to create grape vines
Minor Gods
Heista: Able to create a smaller fire and make people feel at ease.
This is not the only gods you can do, if you know of a god that you would like, you can do it.
