In 1887, the Great Frost swept the planet, killed hundreds of millions, and left the once great British Empire as a number of Heat Generator Towers in the far, frigid north. Humanity, as far as they can tell, number now only in the thousands.
In late 1887, some intrepid members of New London were sent to secure a military facility built by the now defunct Imperial Exploration Company (IEC) that had been uncovered following the Great Storm; inside, a vast plethora of steam cores and steel, which helped immensely with both the newly independent outpost and the eventually cooperative government of New London.
Following such an immense success, New London established Outpost 12, which was meant to act as a major beacon for long-term expeditions. The first two following expeditions, resultant in the establishment of Outposts 13 and 14, were initially equally successful; the Northern Headquarters for the IEC had been discovered, a massive complex that required extensive excavation. When a massive seismic disturbance rendered both Outposts lost, the devastation gave way to Outpost 15.
You are one of the two thousand residents of New London. Your unique skill set has been called on by the Imperial Reclamation Company to help with the construction, and the mission of Outpost 15: Determine the cause of the disturbance, and rediscover the IEC HQ. Outpost 12 will supply your team with the necessary beginning provisions, but future supply should be secured in the Outpost’s immediate area.
You represent New London’s only chances of reclaiming our lost empire. You will succeed, or you will die laying the foundation for Outpost 16.
