2051: New mass terraforming technology allows humanity to begin space colonization in earnest. Mars becomes a garden world. The Moon becomes a tacky casino. Saturn…didn’t turn out so well, to be honest.
2087: Humanity develops warp drive technology, freeing us from the shackles of the Milky Way. The era of galactic colonization begins.
2096: Humanity encounters intelligent alien life for the first time. Promptly gets drunk and sleeps with it.
2099: Humanity officially becomes a member state of the 9th Solar Republic, an intergalactic government of hundreds of thousands of space fearing civilisations. This ushers a new golden age for humanity, as intergalactic trade and travel expends our horizons more than we could ever imagine.
2139: Shit went down. No one knows how it happened, but it was probably the Sandians’ fault.
2150: The Hundred Year War officially begins. The 9th Solar Republic is in tatters as its member states form various factions in a battle for supremacy. Hyper advanced technology is developed for the sole purpose of warfare.
2156: Class 7 Intergalactic Decisive Bio-Weapons known as Fortress Whales are deployed for the first time. Giant, sentient space whales, augmented with machinery to turn them into living battleships. The Fortress Whales were one of many incredibly powerful weapons used during the Hundred Year War.
2190: With the majority killed in battle, and with the advent of more powerful weaponry, the remaining Fortress Whales are decommissioned.
2219: The Hundred Year War ends, not through a decisive victory, but because all remaining civilizations are too spent to continue fighting. A large amount of recorded information has been lost over the war, with each civilization holding on to what little they can.
2230: After years of limbo, a new galactic government is formed, the Divine Ygg Hegemony. The Hegemony is ruled by the Council, a quintet of massive, sentient world trees. Humongous creatures that match the size of their home planets, and whose roots form the bulk of their planet’s internal core.
Unlike the old Republic, which actively fostered trade and good relations between member states, the Hegemony is a much more uncaring authority, focused on the maintenance of greater galactic order, but otherwise apathetic towards the greater galaxy.
While member states are technically subservient to the Hegemony, they are often free to act in their own interest, so long as the resulting chaos isn’t great enough to draw the attention and wrath of the Council. The galaxy is thus home to many minor conflicts, with civilizations fighting out petty grudges between them.
22??: Dr. Cpt. Eleanor Buckingham, self appointed space pirate and holder of doctorates of dubious authenticity, comes across Festungswal, the last remaining Fortress Whale class battleship.
2054: Dr. Cpt. Buckingham recruits a band of merry space pirates. Time for space adventures!
