The year is 2160. The Great War started - and abruptly ended - 83 years ago.
In that time, smaller societies have sprung up in the ruins of the old United States, including a small group of settlers and farmers eking out a living in Petersburg, almost due south of Richmond in what used to be Virginia.
Vault 79, located in Colonial Heights, has just opened for the first time since the bombs dropped. Vault dwellers have come out, seeking a new place to live as their situation in vault has become untenable. To add to the trouble, the 95 Raiders that terrorize the main highway through the area, have stepped up their raids.
And now a new army marches up from the south, seeking to reclaim what they call their ancestral homeland…
