This is a repository for letters, journal entries, poems or other writing which is meant to serve as support for the primary game, Espionage and Enchantment (description of that game can be seen below).
This is an Historic Fantasy game set in the Regency period. It takes its inspiration from Jane Austen, Patricia C. Wrede, Caroline Stevermer and others. You may like this if you enjoyed Sorcery and Cecelia, Mairelon the Magician or Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.
Because of the historic nature of the game, there will be some places that only male characters can go (White’s club, for instance) and some places for only female characters. These scenes will be set up for only characters of those genders. Other places (the house party, Almack’s, and any dances, balls or other social occasions) will include both genders.
In this setting, magic is a skill that can be learned, like fencing, boxing, dancing or embroidery. The recent war against Napoleon’s incursions have seen a rise in military/naval magic…War Magic, if you will. Spells can be, and are, used against specific enemies and also against larger armies. Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington are both accomplished practitioners of War Magic.
Spells generally need components and specific ingredients. Magicians also usually create a focus for their magics…usually, but not always, a piece of jewelry, a cane, sword or some other item that they can keep with them inconspicuously. Magic can be an innate ability or it can be more of a science.
Some of the people who use magic most are spies. The premise is that there are thirteen treasures, originally owned by Arthur Pendragon, scattered across Britain. These treasures have been protecting England from invasion for centuries. Now, Napoleon has sent out French spies to try to locate the treasures and steal them so that he can invade.
Players may be spies working for England, members of the military, servants, shopkeepers or members of the ton who get drawn into the mystery somehow. The goal is to keep the treasures from being stolen, recover those that are taken and defeat the French spies and magicians.
Feel free to make up your own Natures, Strengths, Weaknesses and subplots.
I’m looking for dedicated players who will write in third person, past tense, with a Regency flair. I expect that, if you are going to be absent for a time, you will communicate with us.
