Los Angeles, California, shortly after the end of World War II. This is still a small town in some ways, and one of the biggest cities in others. Here, under the blazing desert sun, the climate is right for murder most foul.
Ambrose Waylon Gray was found dead in his office, with one shot across his brow and another through the base of his neck. His car, however, was hauled out from under an overpass on the Golden State Parkway. The local police have already charged their man, Gray’s son, Richard. The younger Gray maintains he is innocent, like they all do.
