The vast continent of Norojosa is home to several countries, but all pale in comparison to Septoria. This ancient nation is ruled by the Seven Masters, powerful mages whose bloodlines run back centuries. The crowning glory of their respective houses - indeed, the very power which allows them to rule unchallenged - is their absolute control over seven supernatural beings known as the Divine Adjutants. Each one of the creatures was summoned by a different Master during the early days of Septoria’s birth, and was indeed the fulcrum upon which the nation’s glory rose.
The Divine Adjutants are celestial warriors of unmatched caliber in the mortal realm. Each is akin to a hundred soldiers, at worst. Entire armies have been laid low by the wrath of certain Adjutants throughout history. These powerful beings serve the Masters who summoned them without fail until they either die or watch their overlord succumb to the cold embrace of death. Either way, their contract is complete, and their spirit returns to the Astral Plane - their home.
And then a new Master will arise, binding yet another Adjutant to his will, and taking the place of the one who has fallen. For in this mortal realm, no Master can ever bind more than one Adjutant in their lifetime. Nor has there ever been more than seven divine servants upon the Material Plane for all of recorded history. There are always seven, and only seven:
- Archer, the Distant Death - Currently controlled by House Jiren
- Assassin, the Silent Death - Currently controlled by House Chimera
- Berserker, the Unstoppable - Currently controlled by House Shenron
- Caster, Lord of the Arcane - Currently controlled by House Wakariza
- Lancer, the Piercing Death - Currently controlled by House Dianmu
- Rider, the Lord of Beasts - Currently controlled by House Nikita
- Saber, the Blademaster - Currently controlled by House Ototaral
The rule of the Seven Masters has been challenged throughout history. The Masters are mages of the highest caliber, but even a king may be brought low by a stray arrow. The death of Adjutants at the hands of someone other than their equal is an event so rare as to be almost non-existent.
Hence the surprise gripping the nation at the sudden rebellion in the eastern provinces.
The uprising began in the dominion of House Jiren. The ruling Master, Korbal Jiren, was assassinated two weeks after the rebellion began. Lead by an individual who calls himself Fate, the overthrow of the ancient house was as swift as it was successful. Although the Jiren family retains control of their northernmost lands - including several deadly fortresses - the rest of their domain has fallen to this usurper. The timing couldn’t have been worse for the nobility, nor better for the uprising.
Metem Choria, the year of resolution, is only three weeks away. A time that transpires ever seventy-seven years, when the contracts of all Adjutants are severed, and the Seven Masters are left without divine protection for nearly a month. At the weakest point of their power, the rebellion seeks to break the ancient cycle of power once and for all - Fate has declared his intentions from the outset:
To destroy all Adjutants, and banish them from the Material Plane for all eternity.
As the direction of Norojosa spins upon a needle, what action will you take? How will you shift the balance of power? What do you seek?…
