Dissonance - an instance of such inconsistency or disagreement.
The first thing you noticed when you came to was that the space around you was void of any lights or sounds; just an empty silence coupled with blackness like you’d never seen.
“Am I dreaming,” though you felt your dry lips move as the words roughly came out, you didn’t recognize your own voice.
The next time you woke you noticed the lack of darkness; you came to in a room with blaring fluorescent lights.
For a moment you’re flushed with a wave of relief. The darkness before seemed like a distant nightmare. In that moment all you could remember was that you didn’t know how you got there.
“Am I dreaming,” your voice was less dry this time, yet still felt unfamiliar.
“You’re not dreaming yet,” a voice boomed from behind a door you hadn’t noticed.
Your first instinct was to jump up and yank the door open, but when you tried you realized it’s locked. Confused, disoriented, and hungry you continued to try and twist the knob with all your might to no avail.
“You’re not dreaming,” the voice said before the lights above you flickered out.
