DISPLACED: CAMPBELL ISLAND is the story of the citizens and visitors who were on Campbell Island, a resort town off the coast of South Carolina, when an unseasonably early hurricane came out of nowhere and swept the entire island away… to somewhere else.
If you like UNDER THE DOME or tales like ALICE IN WONDERLAND, THE CHRONICLES OF THOMAS COVENANT THE UNBELIEVER, THE WIZARD OF OZ or any tales of people from our world ending up in a strange land, then this is a tale for you.
Characters can be residents, visitors, criminals, law(wo)men, ex-military, teachers, teenagers, senior citizens, or virtually any sort of person that you think would be someone WHO WOULD LEAVE THE TOWN TO SEEK ASSISTANCE in a strange land. (Emphasis is important - while the first several chapters will be about the characters in town, the players will be traveling out of their town into this new land they find themselves - so don’t make a character who will not make that decision. (You can have a character who might need some persuasion, that’s fine.)
The themes of most of my games tend to reflect “heroes, from the unlikeliest of places”. Other themes I like to encourage are self-discovery/growth, making amends for past sins, facing trials/tribulations, adventure, seeking out the mysterious.
Characters will be mundane; no psychics, no occultists who cast spells, no mysterious bloodlines, no ties to the supernatural. Characters may develop special talents or gain artifacts from the strange world, but that will happen during the course of their adventure (and likely be represented by asset cards when it comes to that.)
The magic of the world won’t be super epic LOTR-style fantasy. There will be creatures and magic and strange powers at play. I’m shooting for a blend of dark fantasy/occult horror/adventure/drama.
I’m hoping for 4-6 players who can each post at least once a week, preferably twice.
