Magic has returned to the ruined world of Kor. Individuals of all kinds have been contacted by mysterious entities in their sleep, and offered power beyond their imagination in exchange for fighting the evils afflicting the world.
Some of them choose their powers, while the more uncertain ones are given magic fitting to their personality. And yet, despite their greatness, the life of a Mage is not easy. Common people fear them, and they have to keep fighting to stay alive.
Their magic slowly corrodes and twists their souls. To keep them stable, they need to absorb those of others. Most mages rely on those of monsters, but others are too desperate to let their morality stop them from slaying innocents.
New mages are assigned a spirit companion, a Phantom. Phantoms reside within the individual’s soul, and thus can only communicate and interact with them. They provide guidance and companionship, but still have their own personality.
Young Phantoms can take any form, and have a childlike level of intelligence. They mature to full consciousness within one year by sharing thoughts and experiences with the host Mage. From then on, they can be valuable allies and friends.
After the ancient empire of Lyria fell to the undead legions, a group of elite Mages gathered in the ruins of a keep to form an alliance. Mages could no longer afford to fight each other for souls. If they wanted to survive, they’d have to work together.
This organization was named the Eye and, at first, it was greatly successful. Elite teams of Mages identified and eradicated many threats before they could grow to full magnitude, and saved many cities from the dead armies.
Now, things are looking grim. For each pyrrhic victory, there are a dozen defeats. Mages are lost and corrupted each day, the undead are unstoppable, and the winds of war are rising. This is where you step in. Welcome to Hell, Mage.
Devil’s Game is a character-driven Dark Fantasy story for 3-5 players. Players can have a Mage and, if they wish, a separate Phantom character. Conflict will be both external and internal, alternating brutal fights and their repercussions.
All the players are elite Mages of the Eye. The overall level of technology is rather advanced in the military sector due to constant warfare; firearms are gradually replacing swords and bows, although they still coexist.
Phantoms can have any form, human or animal. They cannot physically interact with the environment, but have complete access to the host’s thoughts, feelings and memories.
I’m looking for a diverse cast of characters, both in regard of magical powers and personality. Creation of new Natures is allowed. Be creative, and be interesting. You will drive the story, after all.
