The United States of America. Nothing more than a story referenced in dusty text books of the past. We haven’t been united for decades. After the gates of hell opened and demons poured into the streets, some cities crumbled and fell into anarchy, while others became more powerful than ever before.
You see, these demons seek out the dirty souls – the truly corrupt, the unnaturally sadistic. As incorporeal beings their power is non-existent, but when they consume the hosts of dirty souls their power is unleashed - along with their stench. Demonic energy pulses through these possessed bodies, the Dark Ones, providing them access to hellion magic never before seen on this plane.
The Dark Times, the first 20 years after The Flood, devastated society and destroyed the foundation of our nation, driving us into small, self-reliant communities where corrupt governments took hold, run by powerful, often possessed officials.
When the human species seemed to be on the verge of extinction, a new breed of soul-seekers began to appear. Those chosen by the Seekers of Light were gifted with powers to combat the Dark Ones in what would become a war like no other. The chosen, known as Demon Wranglers, live among the people, striving for the chance at a normal life despite the obligation to eradicate demonic possessions. While no one knows for certain, it is assumed that the Chosen have a clean soul, despite their outward appearance and previous actions.
The Seekers of Light are comprised of a number of elemental seekers, providing unique powers to souls they deem worthy. Fire Seekers often choose those who have powerful emotions and quick tempers, while Hydro Seekers prefer the souls of laid-back humans who tend to go with the flow.
When a possessed body dies, the soul-seeker, light or dark, begins a new journey to find the next vessel to enter the fight.
After years of battling, the balance of good and evil has been stable enough to allow for the formation of a dozen or so strong, independent societies spread throughout the former United States of America.
In Santa Renova, a large metropolis, the government has created the UAW, United Agency of Wranglers, to manage and sanction the powerful wranglers. These sanctioned crews are fully-funded but are controlled by the government, whose reach and use of Crews is beginning to spread outside the wrangling of demons. Rumors have been circling about a number of top secret projects funded by the UAW. What are they up to? Do you dare find out?
You are in an unsanctioned crew, taking on cases of suspected demon possession for chump change, barely getting by but happy with your autonomy – for now.
