“This world, our world, is like an island. One island in a sea of possibilities. That sea… can take us anywhere. Almost anywhere. That is an edge to each World I call the Barrier. The person who crosses the Barrier gains ultimate power over energy and matter. I mean to cross that barrier and not you or anyone from the Stronghold is going to stop me.” – Professor Prometheus before his first journey to the Stronghold.
Last night when you went to sleep you were a completely normal person. When you open your eyes, you find yourself in an incredibly sophisticated “station” in an astral sea that exists between dimensions. The signs here seem to indicate you are not the first; that other human and nonhuman explorers have lived here and left suddenly and without reason. They left evidence of what they called this place – the Stronghold.
The Stronghold itself is an organic space station located in the void between universes – possessed of a powerful though non-speaking AI that is capable of at least reading thoughts, equipped with a viewer that can look out like a camera lens onto any scene on any World, and with somehow the ability to teleport you anywhere in existence.
You aren’t quite you anymore either. You think the same, but your body is different. Different and powerful. Possessed of abilities beyond that of mortal man you possibly aren’t quite even human anymore and you certainly have the ability to bend the laws of physics.
You also aren’t the only ones to have come here. There was a scientist here before you and in his journals you have found that he has become a powerful being now known as Professor Prometheus and that he has discovered a way to become a God – and destroy all you have ever known or loved in the process.
You are now a Defender, possessed of the only means of stopping the power mad Professor Prometheus, and judging by his last note it looks like you don’t have much time to do it.
There are two variations of Worlds.
Near-Parallel Worlds- which will have doubles and are only not earth in two ways being that the main planet is not called earth and its history, culture and everything is altered from ours.
Non-Parallel Worlds- are completely alien, while humans may exist somewhere in that universe the main planet is an alien homeworld and is completely unique.
Superheroes meets dimension travelling Doctor Who/Sliders, well sort of.
Characters are going to come from either Modern Earth or another world of your creation, avatars are required.
