The Old World hungers. Creaking theocracies carve up the globe, a bounty of resources desperately needed as these empires are pushed grudgingly into the industrial age. Long-simmering tensions threaten to boil over as old, bitter rivals vie for vital sustenance: iron, coal, lumber and slaves.
Across the ocean, the New World awaits: Leise, a rich, unspoiled land ripe for the taking. Exploited in a limited capacity for half a century, two of the mightiest shambling giants now encroach from both sides. From the east comes Sunan, stately and cold, its claim governed from the fortified trade hub of Kalendeta. To the west, a merchant consortium from aggressive Brindia has founded the bustling Guildsport. And crushed between the ambitions of both empires, the indigenous people of Leise: diverse, disorganized and divided between impulses to accommodate or resist.
There is opportunity in this land, for those with the temerity to seize it. There is mystery in this land, for those with the curiosity to seek it. But there is also danger in this land — greater than its peoples, greater than its harsh terrain, greater even than the clash of empires. This land guards a secret that could very well bring the civilization of the Old World crashing to the ground.
The hands that hold this secret bear the fate of the world.
