Disclaimer: This is a setting of my own creation.
To the South lies the Kingdom of Biola, the land of two rivers (Bi-Ola) and the home of the tusk-mawed, grey-skinned Biolans. Descendants of the far more savage tribes which used to roam these lands, the Biolans are now a cultured and civilised people, raising huge monuments to fallen kings and heroes, cultivating huge swathes of farm-land, and creating beautiful works of art and jewellery.
Life for the Biolans is driven by the two rivers which breathe life into their lands, the Elin and Soleb. The entire Biolan culture is built around these two waterways, without which this land would be as desolate a desert and the lands which surround the Kingdom.
Politically the Kingdom is led by the Royal family in the Palace at Bisr. At this time, tis Queen Senesi, the first of her name upon the throne. Her grandfather established the dynasty some fifty years ago. The various provinces, or nomes, of the Kingdom are ruled over by distant relatives of the Queen or advisors chosen by her. One of the biggest innovations, brought in by the current monarch’s lineage is the use of papyrus notes, called “kokkos” which are printed and whose value is legitimised by the Royal Palace, in an effort to prevent the Biolan economy crashing whenever a poor harvest limits the amount of food available.
It is with regards to their religion however, that causes the most bemusement for foreign visitors. The Biolans have just one God - Heosphoros, often called the “Lord of Light and Life”. The Biolan priesthood is a powerful force in the country, and except for the current Monarch, they are the only Biolans allowed into the inner sanctums of the Temples, speaking with Heosphoros and discerning His will.
At the start of this game, our players find themselves on a boat sailing up-river from the coast, headed towards the Biolan capital, Bisr. What brings each of them to this foreign land, only they know. Yet deep in the desert, ancient forces are stirring, and the legacy of a great evil is about to be uncovered.
