ABOUT THE KINGDOM OF SERALIA:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AIZMHztqzClQOhxXOltYu_1jz6KlO4R2x_Ct9YVpdvE/edit#
You stand in the corner of a peasant’s tavern, silent. Waiting. Long strands of tobacco smoke waft up from the pipes of several patrons. A chicken wanders in from the road beyond the tavern door, its feathers silhouetted in the dusky light of midday. It pecks at the earth.
You suddenly notice a strange humming sound. An old harridan swings wide the creaking wooden door, gently nudging the bird aside with her foot. No one remarks at her entrance as she hobbles slowly, her threadbare cloak swaying gently, toward your corner of the room. The low humming sound comes with her.
“It’s me you seek,” she says gruffly without meeting your gaze; a statement. “You aren’t the first and won’t be the last. I know what you want from me, much better than you know yourself. Sit.”
You reach into your pocket for a letter of introduction but she waves it away with a dismissive hand - if you can call it that. In place of fingers, she has bony, stone-like segments fused together with incandescent light. Her knuckles glint like steel. Her palm is criss-crossed with radiant, squarish lines that flex gently with her motions. The hand hums softly.
“Please,” she says, “don’t waste my time with introductions and letters. Sit down and listen.”
THE SETTING
Welcome to the world of the CyberSwords! This is a high SF/F world full of mysterious technology that only foolhardy heroes and wizened elders dare to touch.
In the kingdom of Seralia, small fiefdoms are protected by The Fireshields, paladins who trace prayers into their circuitry-infused ancient shields that can repel any invader.
In Seralia’s capital city, the most precious ancient technology is preserved in heavily fortified public museums. But the curators of these museums must fend off catburglars and counterfeiters who wage an endless campaign against them, attempting to steal the relics and awaken their power.
And in the untamed wilds of Seralia where few dare to tread, there is rumored to be a colony of dangerous mystics who understand the role these artifacts play in the world. These mystics, bent on their unspeakable labors, dare not show their faces to the outside world for fear of the CyberSwords. Authorized by the king, CyberSwords are bounty hunters who respect no authority but gold. They prowl the remote villages, hoping to vanquish the strange mystics for a handsome reward from the crown.
GAMEPLAY
This is a low-pressure, low-intensity game. We will make things up as we go and focus on writing an enjoyable, no-hard-feelings, PG-13 story.
We are playing with the stock Fantasy world. Please embellish your character type and cards with alternate interpretations to give them a flavor you like that fits the world (for example, a Cleric or a Paladin might be styled as a Fireshield, or something more original). The details of the setting are intentionally vague to give players room to bring their own imaginative elements.
Before the game begins, players will have time to weave a backstory that explains how their characters know each other, which will allow us to get directly into the action.
As narrator I have no particular plot in mind. We are seeking players who are comfortable introducing story elements and incremental, well-balanced ideas into the setting that everyone can play with. As narrator my focus will be on keeping momentum going (and on learning the recently updated Storium mechanics).
Thanks for reading, and hope to be playing with you soon!
