The year is 1933. Earth, once too vast, too inaccessible, has started to feel that much smaller. Fruits of the industrial age have forever changed the landscape and things once lost to time are being uncovered. New mechanical technologies find themselves at odds with reawakened mysticism. Now is a time of discovery and danger.
Cunning and intrepid souls risk it all to rescue the secrets of history. Some for fortune, others for glory. But many, because it’s their duty. Powerful forces looking to enslave the world also seek this bygone knowledge, and must be stopped! Members of the Epoch Society have tasked themselves with the defense of humanity against these threats– both new and old– in a conflict that wages in every dark corner of the Earth.
After a failed expedition to retrieve the Kitab Al Faragh, the Book of the Void, a lone survivor from the original team emerges. A Margo Roth, while having gone missing in the Arabian Desert, she is found several months later wandering the streets of New Zealand: crazed, starving, no book in hand. Her tale is as mad and bizarre as any from a pulp magazine. Many write her off as insane, including those in the Epoch society, believing her psyche broken from the trauma.
The only two Epoch Society members that believe her are a Dr. Padm Sharma, the expedition benefactor, and Dr. Charles Dempsey, whose son was lost. They trust the Kitab al Faragh has the power to do as Margo’s tale suggests. Which is why it must be found and protected before anyone else does. They’ve pulled in talent from the Epoch Society around the globe to begin the hunt for the tome, hoping that somewhere in Margo’s fractured mind is the secret to its rediscovery.
