On October 31, 2004, sixteen-year-old junior Emily “Copper” Hayes disappeared from her high school’s Halloween masquerade dance. Despite the best efforts of the FBI and the community, no trace of her was ever found.
Now, on the tenth anniversary of her disappearance, Copper’s closest friends have gathered at a rented vacation home on the coast of Maine to remember their dear friend and try to come to terms with the question of what, exactly, happened to Copper Hayes…and what has her disappearance meant to the people left behind?
Hello potential players!
Please note that all players were Copper’s closest friends in high school. The rest is up to you. Please feel free to create your own cards! How did your character know Copper? What was the nature of their relationship, and how did he or she cope with Copper’s disappearance? What has your character been up to in the interceding years? What is their own theory on Copper’s fate (kidnapped? murdered? etc). Also, if there’s a secret your character has that you don’t want the other characters to see in advance, feel free to e-mail it to me at email@example.com (put Copper in the subject line please).
Not only will players develop their own characters, but also, together, they will develop Copper’s character through the course of the story. Who was she? What did she mean to these people? How did she get her nickname? What is/was her family like? Etc. I might even have some flashback scenes to before Copper disappeared.
This is my first time narrating, so please go easy on me :) I promise I’ll do my best and not slack off and post nothing for days on end (and if something does come up I’ll let you know in advance). I’m willing to move the story along as quickly as everyone is willing.
PS: For continuity’s sake, note that Copper went to North Shore High School, about five miles north of Boston. Please write in third person. I’ll ask in the comments if people would prefer past or present tense once everyone joins the game.
