In the far reaches of space, there is a galaxy known as Ferrian IX. Divided into the eight quadrants of traversable star space, this story focuses on the solar system of quadrant Q.
300 years ago, the Cypher Empire was founded. The birth of the empire took place just following the defeat of an alliance of evil creatures, lead by a race of supernatural beings known only as, “The Dark Ones.” Their true names were never known, but their intentions were unquestionably clear…
Kill or subjugate all lifeforms in the entire universe.
They were finally defeated in an apocalyptic battle on the planet Genesis, from the central quadrant. What happened to the Dark Ones is yet unknown, as if they disappeared from the pages of history altogether…
But in the meantime, in quadrant Q, the Cypher Empire united all the people of the solar system, creating a peace and harmony which had never before been experienced. Criminals saw justice, pirates were all but eradicated, and prosperity abounded for everyone. It was almost too good to be true…
And it was.
300 years of luxury and safety was more than enough time for the roots of greed, envy and corruption to crawl through the entire empire. The last of the Q emperors, Cytillion III Obsidian, tried to reverse the downward spiral of crime and moral decay, but it was too late.
A dark power, which most people now believed to be a myth, awoke. Somehow, somewhere, a Dark One appeared. Feeding off the evil permeating the empire, it gathered an army and waited patiently in readiness, until one day…
The entire quadrant was rocked from top to bottom. Numerous planets, bases, outposts, and all other manner of life-supporting areas were overrun by the minions of the Dark One. Only the 3 major planets remained, along with some distant, lonely colonies that were too insignificant to draw the attention of the Dark One.
Ferrum Issarii, the agriculture capital of Q, fell first. Zoran, administrator of all inter-space manufacturing, followed only two weeks after. Finally, the dark forces mounted an invasion on the homeworld of the emperors.

And its conquest was total and complete. The pride of the corrupt empire was shattered, and when the dust settled, the people found themselves slaves to those who wanted nothing more than to make their lives a living death. But it was too late to do anything now. They could only wait… and suffer.
But finally, after 5 years of oppression, hope is beginning to stir far across the quadrant.
On the distant planet of Toki in the Nomad II colony, one of the few places the Dark One ignored, there is hope. Some young members of the colony, whose origins are varied, are beginning to show promise:
Promise of becoming heroes, who might have a ghost of chance of defeating the Dark One and his evil allies.
