“The Moushole” is one of the worst neighborhoods in Rootgold, a large Midwestern city in the heart of America. Life is hard in the Mousehole and it is where all of Rootgold’s poor live. Life in this part of the city is hard, rough, and frequently tragically short. But just like rats and mice themselves, there is tenderness and love, even here.
This is the story of some of The Mousehole’s many residents, deeply impoverished, just like everyone else as they try to make their own way, and perhaps help others along the way.
======
This is a poor neighborhood domestic story, with little action and a bit of grit. The player will need to navigate their way between the crushing poverty here, and negotiate trying to find their way out, while perhaps making this den of vermin and filth just a little bit better.
This land is filled with every kind of poor humanity, from the drug dealer, to the social worker, to the cop to the ones that dream of leaving the little borough forever.
Which one will you be?
This game is not meant to be an action game and is primarily based on two themes running through Dostoyevsky’s “poor Folk.”
- the concept of soul-crushing poverty
- the amazing abilities of people to remain humane and show compassion even in the worst of situations, which is often in counterpoint to the generally depressing tone of Dostoyevsky’s works and is present in almost all of them.
Note: this world was created by me originally for a one-on-one game with Aijae524 called “church Mouse” but I felt it would be appropriate for a group.
