I’m through with standin’ in lines to clubs I’ll never get in
It’s like the bottom of the ninth and I’m never gonna win
This life hasn’t turned out
Quite the way I want it to be
Weren’t these supposed to be the best times of your life? At least, that’s what everyone is always saying. You just don’t see it.
The truth is, it sucks to be in college. Eating Ramen Noodles or Spaghetti-Os every night for dinner. Pulling all-nighters just so you can barely pass your classes.
Something has to change.
I want a brand new house on an episode of Cribs
And a bathroom I can play baseball in
And a king size tub
Big enough for ten plus me
I need a credit card that’s got no limit
And a big black jet with a bedroom in it
Gonna join the mile high club
At thirty-seven thousand feet
You have always been musically talented, it was a passion of yours. Maybe you’re even a Music Major. Or maybe you’re in a major you hate because your parents forced you in to it. Well, that changes today.
You are going to join a band!
I want a new tour bus full of old guitars
My own star on Hollywood Boulevard
Somewhere between Cher
And James Dean is fine for me
I’m gonna trade this life
For fortune and fame
I’d even cut my hair
And change my name
The premise here is pretty straight-forward. You are a college student who has decided to start or join a band. You will practice, you will audition, you will play gigs… Most importantly, though, you will bond with your fellow band members.
Relationships are going to be paramount in this game. There will be challenges involving auditions and gigs, etc, but much will revolve around how the characters get along, how they interact with one another. Because nothing adds pressure to friendship - or even romance - like being part of a close knit group.
‘Cause we all just wanna be big rockstars
And live in hilltop houses, drivin’ fifteen cars
The girls come easy and the drugs come cheap
We’ll all stay skinny ‘cause we just won’t eat
And we’ll hang out in the coolest bars
In the VIP with the movie stars
Every good gold digger’s gonna wind up there
Every Playboy bunny with her bleach blond hair
For the most part, I don’t expect this story to take it too seriously (hence the lyrics, etc). I hope there will be a lot of humor, a lot of fun. There will be a ton of drama peppered in, but I hope for players that can have fun with the drama, not take it too seriously.
And well, hey, hey, I wanna be a rockstar
Hey, hey, I wanna be a rockstar
I wanna be great like Elvis without the tassels
Hire eight body guards that love to beat up assholes
Sign a couple autographs
So I can eat my meals for free
I have a lot of free time right now, so I hope to move this story along relatively quickly. However, pace can be adjusted to fit player interest.
When creating your character, you will see that I have provided a handful of Nature cards for you to use, based on some typical positions within bands. If you have something else in mind, feel free to add that, as well. (I just ask that you kind of follow my format, and include why ‘Of course, you are the most important piece, the glue that holds everyone together. After all…’)
Strength, Weakness, and Subplots are all on you. Get creative! For now, just don’t use musical ability as your strength. As I said above, many challenges will be related to relationships between characters, not necessarily on performance.
I’m gonna dress my ass with the latest fashion
Get a front door key to the Playboy mansion
Gonna date a centerfold that loves
To blow my money for me
I’m gonna sing those songs that offend the censors
Gonna pop my pills from a Pez dispenser
Get washed-up singers writin’ all my songs
Lipsync ‘em every night so I don’t get ‘em wrong
I expect to keep applications open through the weekend, at least. Ideally, I would like to begin picking characters on Monday or Tuesday next week.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions! I look forward to reading your apps soon.
And well, hey, hey, I wanna be a rockstar
Hey, hey, I wanna be a rockstar
