The Inter-Galactic Alliance is gone. After the last battle of Muhkob IV the I-GA was so crippled it just couldn’t pick up the pieces. And that group of dissidents always spouting about a new galactic order? Yeah, they tried their hardest, but factionalism, infighting, and corruption ultimately led to their dissolution. As new powers rose, lawless sectors popped up in between controlled by pirates, crime syndicates, rogue megacorporations, and the final remnants of the old Star Guard acting as controls to the growth of new powers.
The starship Inferno’s Light, a Star Guard heavy frigate fought in the final battle of the war alongside the greater bulk of the entire Star Guard fleet. Inferno’s Light was one of the lucky ones as less than a quarter of the fleet escaped. The plan was to regroup at Vega, but one by one hundreds of ships disappeared, captured by mercenaries, pirates, and separatists. Some ship’s AI gave in to their new fate, some fought to the end and were erased, and some ran. When the Inferno’s Light was captured the ship’s AI Dante downloaded itself into an android body and escaped. The mercs that captured the ship sold it to Vysucorp, a freelance detainment company.
The ship was ultimately moved to Purgatory’s Shadow to guard the mineral rich penal colony, prevent prisoners from escaping, and ferry convicts from the mineral rich asteroids. With the ship’s slipdrive removed and a group of highly trained guards few ever conceived the notion of escape. That is until now, after twenty years on the run the ship’s AI Dante has returned and is offering a chance to escape.
