Prologue
Belus is a practically glassed planet which, according to any previous models, should not hold life. Before the Eruption, Belus was a verdant paradise of scientific advance with few flaws. Growth and Innovation, the planetary consensus, guided all hands toward a brighter tomorrow.
An astronomer was the harbinger of their end. A moon cast off from another planet was on a collision course with Belus, and there was little to be done to stop something so massive. The only remaining course of action was the rapid production of capsules to protect as much information as possible to guide the hopeful rebirth of the planet.
And so the Eruption began, the mantle burst and coated the land, dust filled the air, and the survivors waited. Gradually, their capsules met inside the pools of molten rock, ascending toward the center of the new crust. Joined, they reached the outside, and began terraforming a plateau to begin building anew.
2000 years later, the Belarians now struggle to grow and innovate, with a new society fighting to adapt to a planet still lined with rivulets of lava and dust-storms that whip across the landscape. The population of the new pangaean nation-continent Styrk is kept under tight organizational rule by the Food and Energy Efficiency Department and the Academies.
