You work for the Bureau for Investigative Regulation of the Bizarre (B.I.R.B). The hours aren’t great and the pay is even worse, but you do get a pretty sweet benefits package: free parking every second Tuesday of the month, accidental death insurance, and a BIRB issued ID card that gets you discounts at any book store and/or one free drink at all supernaturally affiliated clubs and/or bars.
It’s Halloween Night in Greeneville, the time of the year when the boundaries between this world and the next are at their weakest and spirits and magic are at their strongest; which, for the residents (both magical and non-magical alike) of Greenville, usually means lots of cool costume parties and drunken spell casting.
However, you rather unfortunately happened to draw the short stick, meaning that while everyone else in the city is partying, you’ll be at BIRB Headquarters dragging inebriated vampires to detox, writing up F.U.I’s (Flying Under the Influence), and filing endless paperwork after some drunk teen inevitably summons an Eldritch Abomination on a stupid dare.
All in all, it looks to be a long night of Being A Responsible Adult With Important (But Boring) Responsibilities.
That is until a woman is found murdered in the back alley of a used bookstore.
