And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth’s mightiest heroes and heroines found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born—to fight the foes no single super hero could withstand! Through the years, their roster has prospered, changing many times, but their glory has never been denied! Heed the call, then—for now, the Avengers Assemble!
Countless dangers threaten Earth and her people: would-be world conquerors; powered armor-wearing madmen; invaders from outer space and other dimensions; ruthless assassins; criminal and terrorist organizations bent on world domination; mad scientists equipped with super-technology; evil sorcerers and their mystic minions; and costumed criminals of every possible description. Fortunately, an equally diverse array of superheroes stands ready to oppose these menaces at every turn and keep humanity safe.
You are one such hero, ready to put your life on the line to defend Freedom, Truth, and Justice. Sometimes you struggle to balance your personal life and responsibilities with the undeniably important duties of your costumed persona, but in the end all the effort’s worth it… usually.
Over the past two decades, the Earth has been through momentous changes that have shattered humanity’s preconceptions and beliefs. Extra-terrestrial life exists; magic is real; other dimensions, while unseen, are infinite in number. It has been the job of all superheroes, especially the Avengers, to maintain peace and defend the Earth from all threats.
But now, there is movement in the shadows. Unknown forces are at work attempting to bring about change according to their secret agenda. Their influence extends to every part of the globe, and their agents have infiltrated every major organization.
The Avengers have never faced an enemy this well-entrenched. How can they protect the Earth from its enemies when they don’t know who is an enemy and who is a friend?

Issue #1
The Avengers, with the help of two new heroes, manage to bring down Grond thus ending his rampage through downtown Manhattan. When VIPER arrives with advanced technology that heals injuries and rebuilds buildings, the Avengers “borrow” one of the devices to have it analyzed. Dr. Silverback identifies the device as using technology that came from Empress Istvatha V’han. The two new heroes, Musketeer and Lady D’Vert, undergo evaluation by Professor Charles Xavier who approves them for inclusion in the Avengers Academy. Captain Astra meets with UNTIL agent Romanov who is apparently struck down by the assassin Lazer. During Astra and Lazer’s battle, Astra is critically wounded and taken to the hospital. Arriving back at the Avengers’ Mansion, Boost finds Jarvis on the floor apparently dead. At the hospital Astra emerges from surgery but his trip to Recovery is interrupted by Rocket Raccoon intent on collecting the bounty on his former “partner”.
Issue #2
Jarvis is not dead, but rendered “frozen in time” by a device obviously created with V’Hanian technology. During the examination of Jarvis, the Avengers are attacked by their teammate Psylocke. They manage to defeat her and when she is searched they find an identification card indicating she is an agent for an agency called SHIELD. At that moment, two heroes known as Whisper and Hekate encounter Lazer who crashed after his battle with Captain Astra. Between the two of them, they capture Lazer and meet up with… Psylocke? The Avenger tells the new heroes to follow her to the Mansion. At the hospital, Astra does his best to avoid capture by Rocket. Fortunately, Future Girl arrives and stops Rocket. After questioning him, he doesn’t know who hired him to capture Astra but Rocket managed to “borrow” a device from the man; a V’hanian device similar to those used by VIPER. Using the device to heal Astra, the trio head to the Mansion. All united, the heroes monitor what has been going on while they’ve been working on this case. All over the news and social media, other superheroes, celebrities and politicians are lauding the benefits of becoming part of the V’hanian empire. When one of the broadcasts shows “Captain America” about to give a similar speech at the Statue of Liberty, Cap and Hekate race to confront the imposter. The two heroes defeat the ersatz Captain America and take him back to the mansion where it is determined that this “Cap” and the “Psylocke” captured earlier are actually alternate versions from another universe. Boost suggests finding the VIPER Nest in New York to learn more since they have obviously been supplied by the Empress. The Avengers find the nest in a large skyscraper and they assault the base. When Viperia shows up, the heroes manage to defeat her then move on to the base itself, easily handling the VIPER agents there. They learn that many of their suspicions were correct; the Empress is using alternate versions of heroes to discredit the Avengers. As they prepare to continue their investigations, they look to the skies to see them filled with the Empress’ warships.
