Prologue
Your alarm wakens you from sleep, pulling you from sweet dreams. You lean over and turn it off, trying to shake the drowsiness from your mind. But that fog of sleep won’t seem to lift, you can’t get your bearings, can’t get your focus.
And that’s when it hits you… Or doesn’t hit you.
You don’t know what your alarm was set for. You don’t know where you are. You don’t know who you are.
You sit up in a panic, desperately looking around the bedroom you woke in. Your bedroom? It has to be, right? You may not recognize anything, but surely it must be yours. You reach up to run a hand through your hair, and that’s when you see it… A tattoo on your left forearm.
You study it, knowing this must be a clue to who you are. It must be important if you were willing to permanently mark yourself. No matter how hard you think on it, though, the string of numbers means absolutely nothing to you. Then, the unthinkable happens: The number changes.
About the Story
The above scenario played out all over the world early one morning (EST, but in the middle of the night in other places), as every person suddenly found themselves without any memories, and with a countdown tattooed on their left forearm.
A special few also found a brand new symbol tattooed on the inside of their right wrist.
What does it all mean? Who were you before the reset? Why were your memories taken? What is the meaning of the strange symbol tattooed on your right wrist? Perhaps most importantly, What is the significance of the countdown tattooed on your left forearm?
And you had better find out quick, because there are only 14 days before the clock strikes 0.
Notes on Character Creation
Although at the beginning your character will know nothing about themselves or their past, that past does exist, and it will come back to them a bit at a time. Therefore, it is imperative that you have a good idea of your character’s past before we start. In order to keep this past a secret, I ask everyone PM me any pertinent details about their character’s history – who they were, what they did, who their family was, any deep dark secrets, etc. This will primarily be what I use to determine which characters I accept. (Pay special mind to the last of those suggestions - any deep dark secrets. When terrible things bubble up from the past, it will add significantly more drama.)
As for your actual public character description, I expect it will be relatively short. You can outline some of the traits you expect your character to display now (knowing that this may or may not be quite different from who they used to be).
I want you to create your own strength, weakness, and subplot cards. Please use one of the natures I have provided, though. The natures are based on the new symbol tattooed on your character’s inner right wrist, and they will have an influence on the part your character will play in the greater story line. If you have an idea of your own symbol you would like to use, you can ask me, but I will only accept one if I can clearly see how I can fit it into the greater plot I have in mind
I only expect to accept 3 or 4 characters (maybe 5), as I know that I do not do well as a Narrator with an expansive cast. I intend to keep applications open through the standard two week ‘Looking for Players’ period. If applications stop coming in, or if I end up with more than I know what to do with, I may close them early.
Update:
I have had an amazing response to this game already, with 9 wonderful applications! Though I originally intended to keep invitations open for 2 weeks, I am going to cut that in half to just one week. Therefore, I will be closing open invitations Sunday, July 19.
If it gets to be Saturday night / Sunday morning, and you’ve got an application started but not finished, please feel free to PM me and let me know, and I’ll hold off on closing them until you are done, because I really don’t want to deny anyone the opportunity to apply.
I am going to split this into two games, with two separate casts. As it stands now, I will probably deny a couple of applications so neither game is too big, and I apologize ahead of time if I don’t accept you.
I hope everyone will be willing to be flexible with me, if I ask them to transfer the character over to the cloned game.
And, to make them fun, I’m going to make sure each story unfolds a bit differently. So, if you decide to follow whichever copy of the game your character is not in, you’ll see different plot twists, etc!
