Nighttime in Aritasha has never felt so electric, has it?
This City hums with energy. It has a soul of its own, one you should not underestimate if you wish to survive and prosper in the coming nights. This City calls to those who can hear it, draws those who can feel it, and tempts those who desire it. It has a soul of its own; a voice made of metal and concrete and raw energy. Beneath glass and steel and humanity lies a prize: a vein of power untapped and awe-inspiring in magnitude. Those wise to its pull begin to assemble, seeking to claim it for their own.
But of course, the catch. No human could take this prize, few could even conceive of it. The beings competing for this jewel happen to be a bit more… ethereal. But despite their distaste of them, they have no choice but to use humans to channel their raw energy into a form more practical for their purposes. These are beings of immense power, capable of generating large quantities of energy and using this energy to affect phenomena upon the physical world. As they come in endless variety, the extent and magnitude of these abilities is equally as varied. It could be said each of these beings, these Drifters from another plane of existence, is unique, both in capabilities and personality.
To take shape in the physical world, a Drifter must make a Contract with a human host, wherein the Drifter will take up residence in the body of the Host, using their flesh-and-blood as a conduit for their energy while residing in either the host human’s mind, or some manner of binding physical article. Depending on the nature of the Contract, the Human in question may lose their independent will, or the pair might reach a kind of…compromise. Either way, the human will gain supernatural abilities and a chance to claim the greatest source of energy seen in a thousand years, be it as partner or slave to the Drifter.
Meanwhile, in the world of the mundane, shadowy organizations vie for control of the streets and back alleys of Aritasha, each positioning themselves to control and manipulate any Drifters coming to take part in the battle to claim the power emanating from beneath the ground. They, too wish to control the City, so they may bring about change to this world ignorant of the supernatural happenings occurring around them, above them, below them.
The two leading organizations, the Gaias Corporation and the Venwald Firm, share a long and bloody history, full of shadow wars and supernatural innovation. Both have seemingly unlimited resources, a small army of loyal operatives, and a wealth of arcane knowledge at their disposal. They are cunning, capable, ruthless, and completely invisible. Certainly, a wise soul would not trifle with either of the pair.
What’s more, a host of colorful freelancers have also made pilgrimage to Aritasha to observe the storm, a jumble of both the holy and heathen, the wise and wary, the wicked and the delicate. What their individual motivations are is as much your guess as it is mine, but I have a sneaking suspicion each of them has something to prove, and someone to prove it to.
So that leaves but one question… Who are you?
A Drifter of immense power, come to claim the Jewel of Aritasha from the bounds of your human host?
An operative, working to bring about you and your organization’s vision?
An observer from a far-away land, looking to maintain balance as the world rips itself apart?
A holy man out to purify the city, or possibly revel in its heresy?
A rogue magician, looking to snag a Drifter’s strength and achieve eternal glory?
Or just an innocent bystander, swept up in this mess of magic and demons, looking for a way back to your comfortable, normal life?
Inspired by all manner of supernatural fiction, a game of magic, demons, and the hidden societies who lurk in shadow, seeking to remake the world.
Come for supernatural battles in the modern city-scape of Aritasha, or perhaps the political maneuverings of the secret societies.
Looking for a handful of players to either be paired off in a Human-Drifter Contract, or act as rogues interacting with the pairs as they compete for the mysterious prize of immeasurable power and value.
