My Storium Philosophy: http://is.gd/v7DxCd
Once upon a time there was a fantastical Kingdom filled with all the creatures of legend. Princes slew dragons and saved Princess, leprechauns tricked foolish travelers out of their gold, and occasionally a giant would grind someone’s bones to make soup.
As time passed and the world moved on the Kingdom began to fall apart. Worse of all the Legends, characters from these tales, faded from truth to allegory, from tradition to memory, and slowly they began to vanish all together. People didn’t have time for tales of fancy and soon the Legends were facing extinction.
Instead of fading away, the Legends decided to take things into their own hands. The most powerful Wizards and Witches gathered together and cast a Spell unlike any seen before. In one act of defiance, the Legends forced their Kingdom onto the mundane Earth. While most of the Kingdom was destroyed, some relics and places survived and appeared on Earth. The Legends found themselves in a new world with a chance at a new life.
Today these Legends live among us. They hide on the edge of society or blend in where they can. They are cab drivers, butchers, and librarians. They can still wield their amazing powers, but the Disbelief is a dangerous thing. You see, when a human rejects a Legend it strips away some of their power. If a Legend is forgotten, they become mere Mortals. The Legends live a dangerous life. Their very presence can cause Disbelief. Now they struggle to not be forgotten while hiding their very natures.
Then there are the Legends that are best forgotten. The villains and creatures who are unable, or unwilling, to adapt to this new world. They grow fat on their popularity. Fat and dangerous. Other Legends try to disrupt their fame in a hopes that Humanity’s foolish love of evil doesn’t lead to their own destruction.
This is what happened after Ever After, of the Legends that came to Earth and left their Kingdom behind. The story of American Fables.
{Note: The game is inspired by equal parts Neil Gaiman’s American Gods and Bill Willingham’s Fables, but is an original world. The setting is semi-defined above, but further details are left to the invention of the players and narrator during the course of the game.}
Character Creation Notes
Portraits are required. No picture, no entry.
Treat the Backstory as a writing sample. I need to evaluate what kind of writer you are to get a feel for what your moves will be like.
Gameplay Notes
Tense (Past, Present, or Future) and Perspective (First or Third Person) can be move dependent. I’m not concerned with keeping a cohesive narrative, just an interesting one.
Speed is set to 1 Scene\week; the exception is I’m not active on weekends. I try to keep things at a steady pace, I will end scenes even if challenges aren’t completed, I will respond mid-scene to keep things moving, I will respond to challenges when they are completed, and I will wrap up scenes if everything has moved on in the narrative without everyone posting. I’m never going to wait on one or two at the expensive of the group. Players that go silent (No Moves, No Comments, No E-Mails) for a week will be written out of the game.
Communication is very important to me. You don’t have to move every day, but at least drop a note in the comments regularly so everyone knows what’s going on. I understand that Real Life happens, but if I don’t know that you’re going to be away I don’t know how to plan for your character.
