When the cutting-edge of technology can make world-changing inventions a reality, pushing the limits of human brilliance, forward thinking, and creativity…
…someone has to be the alpha tester.
–
You and your fellow players are Alpha Testers for the Archon Corporation, a high-profile tech and R&D company based out of Philadelphia, PA that specializes in life-changing, ground-breaking inventions. Sure, by the time the beta testers get to the products, they’re just cleaning up the occasional bug and helping work out the near-production kinks.
You? You get the early prototypes, the proof-of-concepts, the really crazy stuff before it gets refined down to a street-level product. Not everything is already safe for human consumption when it’s in the early stages, here.
Not everything Archon Corp. comes up with is actually a good idea, either.
–
This is meant as a light-hearted, close-to-present-day sci-fi adventure. There are cybernetics, bioengineering is more common, and thanks to pressure from companies like Archon, the regulations on some of this stuff are more lax than they are today – but you’ve still got bills to pay, drama to deal with, and a reason to be in a high-risk, high-reward job like this one. Sure, you might have a cyborg arm or have fought in a modern-day war-torn London, but Citizens’ Bank Park is right there, and the Liberty Bell still gets visited by hundreds of people a week. Life goes on.
Some people can take being attacked by robots in stride. Some people will be taken aback just by hearing a mouse speak English. You never really know what you’ll find as an Archon Alpha Tester, but if it weren’t for you, none of the earth-shattering inventions that Archon sells at your local stores would make it onto the shelves!
Ideally, each character’s Nature represents the consulting firm that got them the job. Each specializes in a particular group of qualifications, so pick the one that fits you best – I’m open to (but would prefer not) creating new consulting firms if the need arises.
Strengths and weakness are totally up to you – the presented ones are just guidelines. Remember, there’s a reason your character is good enough to work at Archon, but there’s also a reason your character is desperate, crazy, or determined enough to work at Archon!
