Aklaena is a world that experienced an extinction event two hundred years ago. A war was fought between two great nations, the Sugra and Khros. Both inhabited the lush central continents of the world, but were very different.
The Khros were a people who valued cooperation and innovation, they were renowned for their great academies and libraries, which it was said held all the knowledge of the world. Their nation started as a great city on the eastern continent Estla, nestled in the mountains above the many rivers of that land. They grew by slowly strengthening the bonds with their allies until confederation was the most sensible option.
The Sugra were a proud, aggressive people who assimilated neighboring nations by offering a simple choice, serve the Imperator or be killed. Whatever their choice, their culture and traditions were erased. Only the strongest enemies earned the distinction of having their strengths assimilated into the Sugra way. They ruthlessly conquered the other people of the western continent – Vestla – before sailing north towards the harsh tundra and mountainous terrain of Katla and the hot, arid deserts of southern Davla. The people of these lands quickly allied with the Khros when aid was offered and the war began. Millions died on both sides as the hardened warriors and adaptive tactics of the Sugra and the cunning, diverse armies of the Khros struggled to gain the upper hand. Soon the few neutral nations found war knocking on their door and were forced to choose a side.
When it seemed the war would never end, a Soldier appeared from among the ranks of the Khros armies who wielded a great power never before seen. He seemed to bend the world to his desires. He led the armies of the Khros in a great invasion of Vestla, and though they managed to push closer day by day to the capitol of Sugra, they lost thousands every day. By the time they reached the great fortress city they numbered too few to take it, and the legions of the Sugra closed in on all sides. Determined not to let the sacrifice of his soldiers be wasted, the Soldier stretched his arms to the stars and brought down an asteroid upon the city.
That was two hundred years ago, and the world has changed. Technological advances like the secrets to making gunpowder and electronics have been lost to most people, with only a few knowing their secrets. Over all the world is a much smaller place, with new nations forming from the ashes, feeling around for others who managed to survive the impact. The old maps from before the war show us the way the world used to look. But the impact caused the continents shuffle. Now there is only one central continent, Vestla and Estla are separated only by mountains. Katla has moved farther south from the north pole, while Davla moved north.
But just because the old maps don’t work and the old nations are gone doesn’t mean the war is over. As it turns out, some members of the most important families of the Khros and Sugra survived, and their ancestors are making themselves known. As if that wasn’t enough, it seems more people are discovering they have the strange powers the Soldier wielded.
Big things are coming, but for the moment you find yourself in the company of a group of fellow travelers in the forests of Estla. You have all found your way here, in the land of rivers, for different reasons. But you will soon find yourselves united by powerful forces on a great journey.
– For this game I’m looking for 4-5 players
– My idea for how the story will play out is that the characters will be set loose in the game world with an npc or two who will provide direction. Your characters are going to end up being central to emerging events in the world. Expect some intrigue and strategizing alongside questing across the countryside.
– I need you to pick a listed nature when making your character, but feel free to make up any of your other cards and edit the existing ones.
– I’m looking for a writing sample in your character submissions, so feel free to write quite a bit about who your character is, where they came from and how they got to Estla.
–I have all but one character I need for the game. For all further submissions I recommend using the Davlan nature and including a character image.
